Why would Scott Duncan leave one of the most storied basketball programs in the country and take the same asst. position at Wyoming for less pay? Maybe they both wanted to coach with a good buddy

Good point. We don't know all the details. And we probably won't.

I'm mixed on this one... Greg did a pretty good job when he came in compared to what Marcus did... I also think this new guy from Idaho is a better fit for the QB's he is very close to Jason and knows Brett from being in WA area.. I think Dave takes most of the OC responsibilities this year and then move some next year on to the new guy..

does DC think he's holyier than thou, man i just don't understand this staff?? If he wants to be both HC and OC let's see if that's the answer but this is truly shitty news if you ask me and back to rebuilding and the proverbial drawing board. UGH, especially with a Junior QB

Why would someone leave a MWC conf, with a stud QB, with tons of Offensive starters back and head to New Mexico State where the town is a butthole and they arent even in a conference. ?????? I don't know the answers, nor am I saying that these are my thoughts. This situation just begs for questions to be asked.

This. All of you guys throwing DC under the bus because a coach left to coach with a friend need a reality check. Yes, the team has struggled. Yes, we're coming off a bad season. However, our offense has been very inconsistent over the past couple seasons.

Maybe this change will be for the better. Gregg Brandon did a great job taking over for Marcus Arroyo, but the habit of the offense letting teams back into the game in the second half got really old. Maybe now we'll get an OC (be it HCDC or another coach) that will keep the pedal to the metal throughout the entire game now.

WTF?

See Gags tweet...

DC is difficult to work for. Unless your name is Matt Rahl.

Let's see...demote a coach and he quits. Has happened before with DC at least one other time (English).

Think about this...after year four at UW, he only has Pete Kaligas & Jim Harding left from his original staff. Oh, and Matt Rahl, who was the original water boy - turned football ops - turned LB coach - turned DL coach - soon to surely be assistant head coach or defensive coordinator.

Or he can be like Joe Glenn and keep every underperforming coach just because he was their buddy. Shit happens, move on.

Go Pokes!!

Significant salary increase? For real? Wyoming got out-hustled by NMSU?

Holy shit. Now it is worse than I thought. I thought it was a demotion - fuck you situation, and it turns out that the anus of the earth college is paying more for coordinators that UW / DC.

I just checked coaches salaries on USA Today's web site and Brandon made $150,000 last year. Last year NMST payed their coordinators $100,000. In the NMST press release about Brandon's hire, the new head coach said the administration was going to put more money into the football programs budget. Some comparisons within the conference:
Boise 340,000
SDST 278,000
CSU 225,000 Marty English is making 182,500
AFA 202,000
NM 200,000
USU 157,000
Nevada 150,000
UNLV 132,000
SJST 127,000

From the looks of it Jason Ray probably just got about a 140,000 a year raise going to OKST

I choose to believe what is in the casper star article... a chance to coach with a buddy and pay raise drew him away. I think he has been a heck of a succcessful coach over the years and wouldnt mind him coming back some day. Im a little bummed, oh well, we will survive.

It could be for just that coordinator, who is the HC buddy. The rest of the staff may end up with peanuts. Or maybe NMST is really stepping up all around. Either way it stinks to lose a good coach to NMST over pay! Grrrrrrr!

I jump on DC all season because he is a shit Head Coach and a bit of a dick. I've just been sitting back during the off season watching all the moves that I hope will improve the Pokes and dream that next year we will not be an embarassment again.

From my view our offense seemed to improve with DC's original ass-monkey Arroyo departing. I can't say for certain it was due to Brandon, as Arroyo was so bad that I would have preferred anyone, even DC's latest ass-monkey, Rahl, calling the plays. What I don't want to see is DC acting as the Offensive Coordinator this season. He can't handle the duties he has. I'm sure he's as involved as any Head Coach in college when it comes to offensive game planning, but to have him try and call the plays from the field can't work. And if he sits in the booth, he can't really be running the team. Now if he switched to Offensive Coordinator and handed the Head Coach position off, then yes, I'd take that.

A Head Coach is supposed to run the whole show. That's why they get the big bucks. And in our case, maybe the big bucks our Head Coach gets is what leaves our well a little dry when it comes to paying the assistants better. I can also reason that maybe we have some coaching departures because they see the writing on the wall that this coming season could well be DC's last. When he gets fired, most, if not all, the assistants will follow him out the door, without the golden parachute he has. It's better to plan your future, then to scramble if DC goes ape shit again or the team finishes at sub .500 again.

Brandon Left because he was no longer the OC, can't blame him... several football players have told em he was demoted to only RB before this announcement

Does anyone else wonder why we keep getting the Idaho rejects? They are not good in fact they have been worse than us.
