Ive always loved to read that board and never really saw why everyone disliked them so much but I'm getting really angry reading the thread "Dimhole and Vic abandoned the state of Colorado in recruiting." It's just 1 guy, KahunaPoke, but his bashing of DC for his recruiting efforts is really pissin me off. So does anyone on this board feel like he does about DC's recruits? I think he has done an outstanding job of finding hidden talent so far.

DC has certainly brought in some nice talent, and they've been recruiting a lot of the areas they recruited at Missouri, presumably.. but hitting Colorado more certainly couldn't hurt.

Ya I have read that too. Big deal, grumpy old man. First they complain about not recruiting enough Wyoming kids, now its not enough Colorado kids.

Personally I could give a fuck about where our players come from as long as they can play. We're never going to win recruiting battles against top schools, the coaching staff has to develop our players.

I have no problems with DC's recruiting. In fact I think he has done a great job. His first year, he didn't even get on the job until after Missouri's bowl game in January and he still did what I would call an admirable job. We should find out how good his recruits are either this year or next year - many will be coming off red shirt this year as RS Freshmen.

I think Kahuna is an ex WYo player that is involved with HS football in Colorado. AT least that was the impression I got from reading GoWYOGO over the years.

There is some good info over there. But I gave it up.

There is some good info and good insiders over on gowyogo. However it has become so "inbred" over there it's hard to read past few a posts in any topic without reading the same thing over and over. The best thing that ever happened to Wyonation was gowyogo was going to pay only. It let the real fans find a place to come and enjoy... and I thank you for that Mr. T you have done a wonderful job with this site.

I too think that he's a dumbass. I almost paid money just to tell him to shut the hell up. DC had 6 signees from CO his first year, 4 the next and only 1 this year. If you look at the list of the offers from CO, there are plenty. He has offered 9 CO kids this year, most of them of the 3 star variety. 3 committed to CU, 1 CSU, ARizona and Wyoming with two being uncommitted. His point seems to be that only CO are tough enough to play at Wyoming and most others will wilt away during the winters. Getting kids from Neb and Illinois is just as good. They get plenty of snow and they have the 'wet' cold. Every school has attrition! I would think that being homesick is probably the culprit to most of the defections, but some could be ego and not being where they think they should be on the depth chart.

I usually read GOWYOGO for the recruiting stuff and don't read too much of their opinions. there are some real douches, but there are some guys that keep things in perspective. If the kid can play, they can play. Who cares what state they came from. We'd all like to see more kids from our backyard but it just doesn't happen.

Kahuna may be cranky, but he does know his stuff. He was a big time player for the 'Pokes, and has had a lot of good insights over the years.

We can debate how important colorado is to UW's recruiting. I vacillate on it, but it does seem like kids we get out of Colorado hang tough with the program and are solid contributors, while at the same time we do need to upgrade our overall talent and need to look far afield for that.

I think Kahuna's underlying point is that he believes the recruiting is all focused around building one winning team so the HC can bolt to the big time.

If you look at the college football recruiting on ESPN you'll notice that DC has higher and more of the higher scoring recruits than Joe Glenn did. A lot of Glenn's recruits got the minimal scores. Granted a lot of those players went on to become great Cowboys while the higher scoring Glenn recruits washed out or did nothing. It's just worth saying. Last year was DC's first full time recruited class and we were able to redshirt a lot of them. He has had some misses on the OL with guys leaving.

As far as ESPN goes and if all the verbals sign, DC's classes have gotten better each year. This one looks outstanding.

I'm sure we can look back and find CO kids that have left the program but I do agree that it seems, especially with LB's, that CO has been very kind to us. Maybe DC isn't signing guys that Glenn would have from CO but perhaps he's trying to get them to walk-on and earn schollies that Glenn might have given out in the past. But to single out one area that a guy feels we aren't recruiting enough from is ridiculous. It doesn't matter if he played for the pokes or not. Former players don't necessarily make genius recruiters.

I know Kahuna personally, and he was a player for the Pokes, but I don't believe he's involved in CO high school football. Course, things may have changed. Kahuna is still pretty well connected to the athletic dept. and usually has pretty good insight as to what's really going on.

And I think he has a point. And that is that we can't let players in our own background sneak out because we're chasing the high-star kids. I don't think I'm seeing that happen, at least not yet. Part of the issue may be that DC is more familiar with other areas of the country, and I'm ok with that. As long as he brings in kids that can play and will be committed to the Pokes, I'm good with it.

GO POKES!

I fail to see a problem with it as long as we get the best recruits possible and fill up our recruiting classes to the max. I'm quite excited about this year's class already, and quite frankly, I'm impressed with how it's come together after looking quite meager for the longest time. Then again, I'm not going to start celebrating until after signing day. I could totally see some bigger school stealing Pittser from us.

I'm very curious to see how we fare with some of the remaining recruits who are supposedly interested in us. There are three 3-star defensive linemen left, for example:
DT: http://rivals.yahoo.com/wyoming/football/recruiting/player-Brandon-Tuliaupupu-112493
DE: http://rivals.yahoo.com/wyoming/football/recruiting/player-Juda-Parker-115407
DE: http://rivals.yahoo.com/wyoming/football/recruiting/player-Lake-Koa-Ka%27ai-115413 (not going to get him, he's got offers from pretty much every PAC-10 school)

Then there's Langi, who I also doubt we'll get, but at least it's a 4-star guy we extended an offer to who's still considering us. He'd be a great pickup, no matter where he plays (he's listed as an Athlete). http://rivals.yahoo.com/wyoming/football/recruiting/player-Harvey-Langi-88709

As others have noted, I don't really care where recruits come from.. as long as they're good, upstanding kids, they work hard, and they win. That's going to be the key to turning this program around. I read Kahuna's post, a few good points, but otherwise, like Ian mentioned in that thread, talent may be down in CO this year.

As far as other things, GWG is a fine community, and we're building a similar community here (though, I haven't been around NEAR as long as GWG, so we're getting there).. I like my site better, but I'm definitely jealous of the recruiting info that Ian gets.. that's where he definitely has the edge. But we're getting better over here..

I also know Kahuna and he is not involved in HS football in Colorado beyond being a fan. He may have a valid point regarding recruiting Colorado kids. However, I think he is hung up on his disdain for DC. And it all stems from Nike vs Adidas. You may remember a linebacker with initials MS who is an Adidas rep. He and Kahuna are close friends and therein lies the issue with DC for KP.

You meant to say New Balance. Mike Schenbeck 85-88 All WAC. And ya...that was a big deal (the change). Don't blame him for being PO'd...either one of them.

But...that all doesn't mean there is / isn't talent in CO right now. After all, that IS Marty English's recruiting territory...and I doubt Marty would just sit by and not say anything if there were "fits" for UW football.

Also, we DO have interest from unsigned Colorado kids:

We did offer a bunch of guys who are currently committed elsewhere too, like Bishop (went to Arizona), Berglund (CU), Mustoe (CU), Carlson (CSU), Daigh (CU), Healy (Air Force).

So, not sure why they're saying we're not recruiting Colorado. We offered most of the highly ranked Colorado recruits, and in all honesty, does anybody expect us to outrecruit CU in the state?

Yeah, I worked with MS's wife for a while, and he was a NB rep then. That may have something to do with it, but I don't think it's Kahuna's only beef with DC. Haven't talked to him in a while, so not sure exactly what that's about.

Bottom line is that DC shouldn't be forgoing kids in our own back yard for potentially better recruits elsewhere. I don't think he is, and it sounds like (based on other's info) most of those recruits are headed elsewhere anyway.

Again, as long as he brings kids in that are committed players and can help win games, I could care less where they come from.

GO POKES!

I don't think Glenn really got any of CO's top recruits. I think he found some defensive gems in the rough.

I also think that a guy, who has a personal beef with our coach from business matters, shouldn't be trying to stir shit up on fan boards when DC is doing what appears to be a good recruiting job. If we suck for two or three years, I'll be more than happy to admit that I misjudged DC and the Kahuna is the man. I'm sure he'll get a lot of personal satisfaction watching DC fall flat.
