I like this statement: "...Also those alleged incidents were also dozens of years ago and no longer relevent to current conversation"

So, stupid behavior by Wyo fans in he past should be forgotten but anything BYU did over 10 years ago must always be remembered?

Honestly, most BYU fans don't give Wyoming a second thought anymore (just like you guys don't give BYU a second thought anymore) since we are no longer in the same league. Except for this year because of the upcoming game. So why the need for such extreme hate?

But, as for me, I have always liked Wyoming and cheered for them except when they play BYU or USU. ( I was pulling for Wyo so hard in the infamous Joe Glenn finger game against Utah :) but...) That's why I came to this board (in peace BTW). I wanted to have a little friendly conversation with some fans of a team that I actually cheer for.

I just have to say that the attitude on this board surprises me a bit. I thought, "well, I have something in common with these guys, i'd love to talk with them...".

I'm not one bit offended by your responses, I really don't care, just surprised. I explained my side of the stories and tried to be as factual as I can remember. But instead of an honest discussion, all I got was name calling. I would love to have a discussion one day with a Wyo fan that uses logic and explains Wyo's position instead of just name calling. I've always felt that listening to the other side gives you such better understanding of any situation.

And as for the article I quoted, I'm not submitting it as evidence (I almost NEVER believe what I read on line). But someone accused me of making this stuff up, and I was just showing you guys what is out there.

So I'm sure I'll get a few more post about how "self-righteous" we are, etc. But is there anyone out there who wants to discuss anything football related?

You're right, you can never be sure of what you read on the internet, and I don't know if the Daily Herald is a rag or a respectable news source, but here's an article about BYU fans pelting their only black coach's car with eggs after a loss, as well as BYU fans taunting players as they leave church because they lost that weekend and BYU fans verbally assaulting Max Hall's wife during a game.

http://www.heraldextra.com/news/local/article_0d5d3422-2f75-5ade-98e0-8b67c53c010f.html

But if you are into something more visual, how about this video of a BYU fan attacking a Utah cheerleader during a game? Extra special about this, is the cheerleader kicks the guys ass.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3PmgNj0D3g

Or how about this video of BYU fans verbally abusing refs AND throwing trash at them, as well as at the cops and security? More disturbing than the fans is the BYU sidelines screaming at the refs as well as they exit, pretty much encouraging the fans.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3HM9s_eq4c&feature=youtu.be

If I were to see video of flaming pennies or bladder discharge balloons being hurled from the Wyoming stands, I would stand corrected, be embarrassed and would apologize. But right now, it's urban legend.

And off the subject of out of control fans and back to rules. I played in a Mormon basketball league when I was a teenager. The rules were you could have one non-Mormon on the team, they needed a point guard, that's what I played, so there you go. But, we weren't allowed to drink Coke. Has that rule changed, like Catholics couldn't eat meat on Friday's, but now it's cool? Or was it misinterpreted by the coaches and players?

OK, I'm now going to help "cowleycouger" and say all these are photoshopped cuz BYU fans don't do these things - it's not in their honor code.

Nah, their honor code includes "defending" BYU if someone "attacks" it.
It has a very loose definition.

This fucking guy seriously thinks that Wyo fans throw piss-bombs, and heated pennies, but then says "don't judge my beloved cougars because of some exceptions"!

Dude, gtfo. If the piss bomb and heated pennies thing was for real, there would be several fan bases that would be discussing it not just BYU fans!

I'll admit every fan base I'm part of, college AND pro, have plenty of morons showing unacceptable behavior.

It's a pretty big difference when a few fans does something rotten compared to when your entire institution does it, though. Whether it's attempting to assassinate a conference you'd been partnering with for many years, or punishing female students for being raped or sexually assaulted.

Another reason plenty of schools are sick of BYU is their "internal discipline" for committed infractions of players, that then never led to much of anything. To be fair, this season the team doesn't seem to stoop nearly as low as it did in the past. I hope it stays that way.

This should be a good game. While byu has a respectable defense, Hill and Allen should be able to have a big game so long as things don't start to get forced. Let's get one more big game for Gentry, Hollister and Maulhardt. The injuries on defense are starting to take a toll, especially against the run, but without the threat of a mobile quarterback (injury to Taysom Hill, I don't care who you play for, unfortunate to see a guy go out like that) we should be able to get the key stops to get the offense back on the field.

Overall a great season and definitely big for the guys that stuck around as a new coaching staff came in to finally get to a bowl game. That being said, byu was already out of the conference for these coaches and players, so I wonder if the team can manage the same fire as the fans. Within a few days of finding out who you're playing how do you instill in them that this one team Wyoming does not want to lose to? The downside to byu not being a conference opponent is that we have to explain it rather than the team experiencing it.

The key word to byu leaving the MWC is exposure. It was all about national coverage, and football was going to get it. Leave the MWC in football, but keep other sports and byu was denied, so they tried to manipulate the WAC, which was just trying to survive. Several teams that had played with byu for decades would have been left out of that deal and been in limbo if that had come to pass. It was byu wanting a better tv deal for football and then trying to protect byu in everything else that pissed off the rest of the conference. You can say that this is byu doing what's best for byu, but outside of provo, this is byu trying to kill the MWC because they won't give in. I wonder if they actually get more viewers on ESPN as an independent, rather than being part of a conference but only shown on the Mountain. I watched the Mountain for all things MWC sports, but since haven't seen byu in anything.

As for Wyoming fans, we've earned quite the reputation over the years. A lot of claims admittedly made up, but certainly some things are true. Outside of obscenities, I've personally never seen anything thrown at opposing teams or fans though.

At least we're not playing on that godawful blue turf.

With that, there is only one thing to be said about the upcoming matchup. Starts with an F, ends with a U, and there's a BY somewhere in the middle.

This is lengthy, so for the TL;DR crowd here's the summary. bywho and their fans are part of a hypocritical organization with a culture of cheap shots and a complete lack of accountability for their team members/sports organizations that permeates to non-athletic issues on campus. Because of this culture Wyoming fans and bywho fans struggle to find common ground.

A bywho person tries to make nice, tries to find something we can relate to (wife from WY in this particular case), and then proceeds to claim ignorance towards the past, then continues to poke and poke and poke at people to get a reaction. This is the same shit that bywho's football team and basketball teams do on the field, they instigate and instigate and instigate some more, but never get caught, finally when someone reacts it's the "thug" opponent or in this case it's "name calling, and attacks" or "classless fans." Furthermore, when called out on their shit, bywho fans pass issues off as one time incidents, out of the ordinary, extenuating circumstances and grow incredibly offended that anyone would say something bad about their university.

Wyoming fans are going to tell it how it is, and do not care one iota what a fan of the team from provostan thinks. I've been to many Wyoming football and basketball games and outside of the Wyoming-New Mexico basketball fight (actually a fight, not cheapshots and sucker punches) that happened back in like 2006 or 2007, I've never once seen a Wyoming player throw a punch (not to mention a sucker punch):

Nut punch:

Another sucker punch:

Furthermore, in all the Wyoming-bywho games (in Laramie, Provo, and Vegas) the most despicable thing I've ever seen from Wyoming fans is the barrage of "Fuck you byu!" chants and the "Number XX is a bitch" chants. I've never seen or witnessed it said to an individual person, family, or child as bywho fans have often told me they've seen. If the word "Fuck" offends you when it's said in a stadium, so be it, grow some thicker skin.

This constant "holier than thou" attitude from bywho fans and the school is what drives us as Wyoming fans absolutely crazy. It doesn't take a lot of searching on YouTube to find bywho cheapshot compilation videos, but fans and the school's administration pass it off as if it's nothing. Clearly with this many incidents happening, it's part of the culture at the university. You couple that with a very obvious history of racism, and more recently a culture of shaming sexual assault victims by expelling them http://www.sltrib.com/news/3799848-155/i-thought-i-was-the-only and you really start to rile up people outside of provostan.

All this is not to say that Wyoming doesn't have flaws, but as Wyoming fans we are willing to recognize we aren't perfect. Our administration is willing to hold our players, students, and coaches accountable for their actions, acknowledge there are issues, and move forward (see player suspensions after the New Mexico fight, Dave Christensen being suspended after the Howdy Doody rant, etc). In all my years of seeing bywho as a rival, it does not appear that bywho holds themselves to these same standards.

Go Pokes! Beat bywho.

Honest question, how are my posts "holier than thou"?

Kinda feels like BYU was the one that was hung out to dry by the MWC teams.

The fact that you feel compelled to ask is exhibit #1.

Also, what a joke.

Good thing you have all that 'logic' going for you. I'm sure the byu fanbase appreciates your collective superior logic.

Yep, here is another one for you.

What i can't stand the most about byu, is a top to bottom policy of not admitting fault or responsibility.

Black 14, truthfully could have been handled differently by our staff, and not resulted in disaster. However, it was all baseline to the fact of racial discrimination... Which absolutely byu was practicing. Never have I heard a sorry from administration, or fans.

When they turned into a dominant team, the refused to acknowledge when we had a good team. I have said in the past, to close circles, that byu was pretty good, and I hope we beat them. That type of mental approach never comes out of salt lake.

They wanted nothing to do with us in the 2000s. Bitching every time they had to play us, poor sports in victory as well.

They play dirty, in all sports. There is never an announcement from the hive about further actions.

They are the most selfcentric, ego driven, un-accountable, ethically challenged (hypocritical from an supposed ethics institution), do anything to win institution I have the pleasure of knowing.

The wac breakup further highlights their disregard for regional ties.

Still, as of today, they think this bowl game is nothing, no history, a waste of their god damn time. I can't fucking stand the attitude.

I don't have many pet peeves, but byu captures them all. I don't hate Mormons, but I hate your university and everything that your athletic department and your lassaize faire fan base stand for.

Nothing good ever happens for Wyoming when we play u assholes. The best thing for both schools is to never approach each other again, until they can claim some responsibility for their actions.

Go Fuck Off Byu.

Elephants never forget

I love this post so much. Probably going to memorize it. Maybe yell it at my cousins, we'll see what happens.

you asked: " ...But, we weren't allowed to drink Coke. Has that rule changed,..."

I would say that the rule hasn't changed, but it was interpreted by some to mean no caffeine. The rule is no coffee or tea, but Coke, Pepsi, etc were never actually forbidden.

Well,

Good bye all. I am going out of town for the holidays. Thanks for making me feel so welcome (ha ha) here.

PS to those who think I'm "butt hurt", you must not read very well. I just wanted some friendly talk. You guys are the ones who spit fire and hate.

There are a million things I could say in response, but I didn't come here to troll or fight. However, I've never experienced the kind of denial I've seen here.

After visiting this board, I've learned that all BYU fans are thugs and that all visitors are treated awful in Provo. Hmm, tell that to those on the Cincinnati, UMass, and Toledo boards who have never been to Provo who went back and posted in amazement at the way they were treated in Provo. (I'm sure you can find them, you had no trouble finding videos of the 3 or 4 incidents involving BYU over the last few years)

Anyway, I'm still a Wyoming fan. I think it's awesome how a smaller school can compete like you guys do.

Hope you go 12-1 next year.

Good luck in San Diego.

And byu fans wonder why we hate them so much. The condescending tone in your message makes me want to punch you in the face in real life. If you didn't have such a superiority complex we would have no problem conversing with you in a reasonable manner, but you refuse to talk to us as if we are equals, so with that...

Fuck off...to you and any fan of your institution that thinks they are better than anyone else...I'll gladly say it here, or in real life.
