Gilmore

I have heard his name thrown around a lot, but we haven't discussed it much with Tedford getting most of the attention. I was wondering what everyone would think of Gilmore if Burman decided to go with him.

I heard that he was interested 5 years ago, but I don't know too much about that last search. He was said to have a staff ready to go then, so I am wondering if anybody knows who he had for that.

I would be fine with Gilmore, he has a lot of coaching experience although not at the head coach level. He was in charge of recruiting for Nebraska so he can handle that. If he did get a quality staff around him he could turn out to be a good coach, he knows what it is like here in Laramie, as well as not viewing us as a stepping stone. Just wanted to see what everyone thought about him, and what your feelings would be if he were to be hired.

If we don't get Tedford I think he has to be the choice. He's got a ton of recruiting connections, understands our culture, and could open doors we haven't been able to get into.

His experience at Nebraska, USC, and the NFL would be a huge selling point for potential players. He would be out of the box, but it would be a gamble well worth taking.

I would be underwhelmed with Gilmore. True, he was a top assistant at Nebraska, but not during the Osborne/Solich years. He was part of the Callahan crowd that most Nebraskans wanted to run out of town. Pellini kept him on, but Bo has his own issues. To me, Gilmore reminds me of what Colorado tried to do with Jon Embree and Eric Bienemy...reaching back to guys from back in the day who were proud alums coming out of the NFL, but hadn't a lick of head coaching experience. That didn't work out to well. Just my two cents.

Embree got shafted IMO. The CU program has large problems that will take at least 4-5 years to sort out. He was setting up a very good foundation to have success, but they didn't give him much time to fix everything that needed to happen. Bienemy was his only mistake, as he was not a good OC, but I honestly believe if Embree was given a fair shot that he would have succeeded. Which is why McCartney wanted to have the job until they fixed it and then turn it over to Embree, since the fans wouldn't give much pressure to McCartney but did to Embree.

CU regents approved I think 180M in facility upgrades today. That should help.
Long overdue, to me it seemed like they never real backed the Embree hire, and used it as a way to get rid of Bohn to get a new AD in there.

I still think if your going to try something new it's either Gilmore or Stitt, If you're going to stick with conventional you go with Tedford. More than anything I would love to see someone come in and do something special and have it start in Wyoming.

Conventional coaches don't tread on dangerous waters they do what they know and they work with what they have experience with. I personally think we need new, different and unexpected because conventional hasn't worked here.

Let's be honest from where we are there is only up there isn't anything below the basement we have been sitting in.

I am intrigued by Gilmore. His background is unique from everything else we have tried. The downfall is that his background may not make him qualified for a MWC HC job. Obviously he would need to be thoroughly interviewed about how his vision for success lines up with reality and what his staff would look like. I'd much rather have him than some of the other names being thrown out there.

To be honest Gilmore reminds me of Karl Dorrell minus the few years of OC experience. Sounds like a really good position coach and a great personality. I don't have any way of knowing whether he has the chops to be a head coach and we can't afford to find out the hard way that he doesn't.
