Gilmore

First off I am so excited about this team what a win tonight! I am even more excited by the fact that it was on the road showing they can handle adversity.

I just wanted to throw this out there as this has been my thought to the whole Adams Grabau delima, I believe that if/when Grabau comes back he should be the point guard with Adams at the 2 and Gilmore the one on the bench. Gilmore does not do a very good job of handling the tempo and was the reason the red birds got that big lead tonight since we were playing their game. Grabau does a very good job of handling tempo and not turning the ball over he should be our true point guard instead. Just my :twocents:

And he would put a spark on the bench like adams and maybe unlike grabau

Exactly BeaverPoke the guy can score points and would be great off the bench and can provide great minutes, but I just would rather have Grabau handling the ball as the true point, he is more of a point guard looking to pass and take care of the ball and not just trying to score.

Gilmore is a senior and tonight in the second half he played good basketball and his defense is really good, he isn't leaving the line up

I'm not sure how many free throws he made in the second half, but they were clutch.

and not to mention the guy has now played 2 straight games with 40 minutes, for you out there that aren't math wiz's thats every second of the last 2 games

Gilmore should start. He wasn't the reason Illinois St. got the big lead. The reason Illinois St. got the big lead was because they hit 7 straight 3's and a couple of them by Brown with guys in his face. Nothing you can do about that. Gilmore should be starting. He has done a pretty good job. He does have a couple of turnovers each game that he shouldn't have but hopefully he will keep improving on that. He hits free throws and he can go by his man a lot of the times. He did a good job of penetrating tonight and kicking it off to guys cutting to the basket.

It is nice to have a couple of extra guys that can start though.

Gilmore was not the reason they built that lead shooting 8/12 from 3 range in the first half is what gave them a lead nothing else. Sure you can blame w/e Gilmore didn't guard that got a 3 off but you can't blame much else. Did he make some mistakes sure the entire team made some first half mistakes but the second half was 100% different.

I am not really saying boot Gilmore from the lineup it's just that I think a lot of people would like Adams starting, and would like to have a scorer come off the bench and we don't really know if Grabau should be benched.

Too bad we can't start 6 cuz Adams Gilmore Grabau Martinez Leonard and Nance would be great lol

I do think if Adams, Gilmore, and Grabau all keep playing the way they have been assuming Grabau gets healthy, then we have a problem, 3 players, only 2 can start

I think Grabau and Gilmore have both earned their starting positions and if it turns into an issue we easily have someone that can back either of them up. Adams has great fire but he still has to learn ball control. Now when he learns that I agree he will be a great starter but you can't just play run and gun ball when that isn't what the team is designed around that is why we fell apart in the 1st half we were trying to play fast paced basketball and we didn't need to be.

I take nothing from Adams great player great fire and he will be an asset no doubt about it but he is young.

What do Manu Ginobili and James Harden have in common?

(Up until this year) they hardly ever start.

Debating who starts between Adams, Grabau and Gilmore should be a non-issue because all 3 will play plenty of minutes and make their contribution no matter what. Shyatt knows what he's doing.

I am very excited to see this many people have opinions on this issue. It shows how much depth we really have where we can't really seperate a starter and a guy off the bench this year we are 8 deep with 9 being possible if Haldorson comes into his own and gets more minutes which is fantastic!

Actually I think depth is one of our biggest weaknesses and I wonder if it might hurt us later in the season (I think it contributed last year as well). With Grabau out last night we played all 5 starters over 36 minutes. That's pretty crazy.

It appears that the staff is only comfortable with about 7 guys right now (normal starters plus Adams and Cooke). I think Haldorson and Sobey can contribute but their time has been pretty limited.

Some guys are just ready from the get go and just need some "polishing" like Adams and Cooke. Both are explosive, but need to learn their limits for college ball, but have otherwise been very impressive.

Haldorson and Sobey though are in the other group. In that they need more time to get used to the pace of NCAA basketball, but will be solid contributers down the road.
