Mountain West Connection had this piece.. I'm less than thrilled about either.

Yeah....Fritz has a Glenn feel to him, but without the great defensive background.

If Gilmore could get a quality staff around him, namely a good OC and DC I would not mind him. Fritz I say no, the only FCS guy that they should even think about is Bohl, and to a lesser extent Babers.

Gilmore - NO WAY - NO HOW.

Willie Fritz?

Now THAT is an interesting and outside the box/innovative name to be considered.

Not only can he coach his ass off, assemble a great staff, has experience in turning around programs...but in the way of representing WYO with a bold and irreverent face, this guy is charismatic and he's someone who could rally the state and embrace Cowboys Football the way that DC never seemed to be able to.

Willie Fritz is an electric personality and could be EXACTLY on myriad levels, what we need as our next Head Football Coach.

Do not underestimate this man, and if Burman is pursuing him I applaud such a move.

Also -- his ability to potentially mine for talent out of Texas could be huge.

Don't bet against Gilmore.....Wyoming Alum, experience at BCS schools and talk this morning on the radio turned to race which they felt gave him an edge in getting a different type of athlete to Laramie. Wouldn't be my choice though.

Burman wants a culture of toughness. If he's a man of his word, he'll sellout to get Bohl.

Yes, outside the box completely when compared and contrasted to the initial batch of names that have been circulated.

LOL.

LOL?

Fritz's teams are successful because of speed.. they're not a tough team, North Dakota State took them behind the woodshed and beat their ass in two straight FCS title games. Plus, do we really want more Texas guys on the roster who fold like an accordion in Laramie?

Bingo Mr. T. Give me Ted Gilmore.

And who transfer out routinely...

I would love to see a statistic on Texas recruits over the past 7-8 years and how often they stayed with the program.

Fritz also gets a ton of transfers. SHS is the designated transfer school for Texas FBS schools.

Good Point. Based on location, I would think you would have to be a pretty bad coach not to be successful at Sam Houston State.

Exactly. Don't want to trash Fritz, but that would be a poor hire IMO. He doesn't translate well to Wyoming. Might as well have kept DC if Fritz was the target. But its still early....no way Burman has talked to all his potential candidates.

Ted Gilmore, While not directly a head coach ( assistant coach experience) knows what it takes to succeed in Wyoming. That is huge, He was interested when we hired DC but he had his own coaching staff he wanted to bring in. That was a while ago but I would say if he has his own coaching staff he wants and they will pay for it I would be satisfied with the hire because he knows how tough it is to win in Wyoming so it's not like he is expecting an easy job.

Ted Gilmore = Heath Schroyer.

If there is no market for a coach's services at your level, there is usually a reason for that.

No other MWC school would have touched Schroyer as head coach, yet we hired him because he was a friend of Burman. No other MWC school would touch Gilmore as a head football coach either. No reason to hire him just because of his UW ties.

Damn, I guess I will have to revise my position on Gilmore. I thought he sounded like a new option than what we have tried before and liked his resume. Is there some kind of cronyism with Burman as was the case the Schryoer or simply someone who is not qualified for the job?
