This is the really weird part. It feels like Sawvel is still trying to hedge. He complimented Anderson but it feels kinda gross how he does it. He won a shootout and put up big numbers. I don’t think he would have been as reserved had svboda put up that kind of game. He still uses phrases like “uniquely gifted” when talking about him. He can throw the hardest pick 6? Svboda did play against the tougher teams and he gets some leeway because of it, but once he failed to perform against weaker teams, they should have known. I get it, you don’t want to crown Anderson as some kind of savior (like they did Svboda). You can praise a performance more while also emphasizing that this was one game.More than once Sawville has referred the explanation to a problem area as “talked to other coaches” let alone the obvious he was sticking with Svoboda regardless. Bohl was grooming Svoboda for the past 2 years and probably would have played him the first 6-8 games before reluctantly switching.
This question has merit - Can Sawville make his own assessments and decisions without referencing he has sought the input of others? There is nothing wrong with talking to others, just don’t make it sound like you’re not as responsible because someone else said they might have done the same thing.
Svoboda is good enough for the 4-5 yard pass that Bohl preferred to use. The facts are undisputed he can either hit a Wyoming receiver for 4 yards or a defender for 6 points on those little swing passes. It’s the downfield stuff that causes the accuracy to drop under 50%.
Sawville needs to quit sounding like he is afraid of upsetting Svoboda. Simply be honest and tell every player that all positions will be considered with recruiting. Wyoming had more than just Svoboda in the QB room before the last recruiting period. If Sawville had recruited and signed the QB Dampier who is at UNM, this Wyoming team would be no worse than 7-2 right now and undefeated in MWC play setting up a showdown with BSU in Laramie. Even Anderson from the start would likely have the team at 6-3 if not 7-2 and undefeated in MWC play.
I think Anderson will do fine against CSU but likely to have a stinker against Boise (if he doesn’t get killed). Last two games against Boise have been abysmal for our QBs
