Gardner-Webb at UW - It's gameday!

Agree it's a good, important win. Also agree about the concern with the running game. Do you guys think it's the blocking or the backs being not as talented?
 
Football math:

(no running against FCS team) = (no, no running against FBS team) = (no, no, no high MWC finish)

I believe it's a combination of both.

Backs need to be better, but we also have two true freshmen OL in the starting lineup. It might take a couple of weeks to get their peak performance.
 
Going into the season, I thought we might have a fighting chance against Oregon. Anyone who's watching the Nebraska/Oregon game and has half a brain cell knows we're going to get slaughtered next week. This is not the same Oregon team that showed up last season.

It will be a good test for our improved defense. Hopefully they can walk away with something to gain, but I'm losing $200 next week without a doubt.

Especially if Vigen doesn't have a better gameplan than "vanilla".

I might be ignorant, but I do know having the entire team rush for 65 yards....think about that for a minute, 65 miserable yards against a bad FCS team does not bode well for the future. It doesn't matter if it is play calling, blocking, poor decisions by the backs, or a combination of the 3, it is a major shit show that could turn this into another 4-8 or 3-9 season.
 
Long season without NFL center...te..rb...wr? Or simply vanilla due to opponent?

Also...true frosh on the online....superstar qb but no playmakers....ugh. Hopefully the sky isnt falling.....

I think you're jumping the gun slightly. Our defense played another complete game from start to finish against a tricky offense. They will carry the team to at least a 6 win season.

At this point though, I'm not close to confident that we'll be contenders to win the division and make the title game.

I too am not happy about the running game but I think our defense looks good this year and between the defense and passing game we will win more than 3 games. It's not like Hawaii, Texas state, sjsu, Utah State, or Fresno State have looked like world beaters yet. I don't think we know about new mexico or afa yet. And I for one am not sold on csu. Im not yet ready to say we will win all of them but I think we will win more than 2 of them
 
At this point I'm comfortable predicting the Idaho Potato Bowl or the Guildan New Mexico Bowl.

The Dirty Bourbon in ABQ was a great venue for our pep rally a few years ago. Time to start making travel plans!
 
I'm not ready to throw in the towel, but damn, the running game needs to do a major turn around and do it yesterday or this team is fucked. Remember this, Wyoming will not face an easier defense than they faced today, and yet they only rushed for 65 yards. My fear is that the coaching staff starts using Allen as a running back and he takes too many hits and ends up out for the year. Time for the coaching staff, O line and the running backs to get their shit together and not put all of the pressure on JA. No need to sugar coat it, this performance in the running game today was abysmal.
 
Just got back from the game. Just a few observations: It looked like the thrust of the game plan was to not let Josh get hit. He broke containment a few times and could of run but threw it away instead. Conway is really good and the rest of the receivers are a work in progress. It looked like Bohl really wanted to establish the run but we just had too many 2nd and 9 or 3d and 7's to make it work.

Overstreet hits the line a little more decisively than Hall. He looked pretty good when he got a little daylight.

Next week will be interesting in that Josh might need to run the ball to make us go.

Well, that's what happens when you run for -2 to 3 yards on first and second. It's funny how many times we tried to FORCE runs to try and get it going, only for Allen to be forced to make a 10 yard play on third down to get a new set of downs.
 
Hall had 13 yards on 10 carries.
Overstreet had 33 on 14.

That's against a terrible line... on the other side of things, their freshman runningback averaged over 4 against our line, which by all accounts is pretty solid.

Well, look who we were playing. I heard Bohl say before the game that he wanted the offensive line to impose its will against them. It didn't happen. There is nothing wrong with trying to force the running game against a perceived inferior opponent. Sadly, they weren't inferior enough.
 
On the positive side, Zaleski did just fine. Averaged just shy of 39 yards per punt. Once again, he's a true freshman and should only get better and improve his distance and hang time. He had to punt more than I would have wished for today, but looked pretty solid doing so.

Our coverage teams didn't look bad either. There's a reason they didn't have any punt returns.
 
Last year, we started 1-2 and then went to Fort Collins and fell behind 14-3. Everyone knows what happened after that. Next week will be a lot of fun. Maybe we will have a few tricks up our sleeve.
 
No true fan is giving up on this team. I agree, the running game is a concern. The line is doing a good job of pass blocking at least. One of our backs need to step up though. I thought the run was Bohl's forte?
