Gameday: Beat the Buffs!

Feeling good about this one. Don't think the buffs have faced a defense like the one that they'll confront tonight in the AA. Just hoping we have some decent refs. Can't get Washington in foul trouble. Challenges for Pokes? Buffs are well-coached and Martinez won't have much space to shoot the three. We'll need Gillmore and Nance to have big games. One thing Josh Adams and Nathan Sobey can give us is taking defenders off the dribble and driving either to the basket or pulling up and knocking down the midrange shot. But as I say, feeling good, and I think the 2001-2002 buzz will return to the AA. Go Pokes!

I think the key to this game will be Washington and Gilmore. Dinwiddie will be covering Martinez and will probably limit him to not much offensively as he is a very good defender, but Washington will have a miss match all game and Gilmore should be able to score on his matchup. I am hoping we have a large crowd and start getting the Dome going again, prediction Pokes 65-61.

Cooke is a big, and his speed will make him a pain for another big to cover and his size for someone smaller but faster. Nance is also athletic and is comfortable underneath the glass or out from a ways.

I agree I think we have an advantage with our big men in this game. Roberson is a great rebounder and defender, but he is very similar to Nance so they cancel out, then we have the advantage with Washington and we have better depth with Cooke being involved and they are not very deep up front.

Denver Post has Pokes by 1-1/2. Too optimistic, I think. CU very athletic, especially going to the glass. Adams, if he replaces Grabau (which looks likely), will commit a lot of turnovers as CU will put the heat on him. They will also try to foul out Washington. Best hope - Gilmore and Martinez both find the range.

1.5 is too optomistic? What would you prefer? CU by 10?

And Adams will have the heat on him I agree, but watching him he is very fiesty and seems to get through the full court press without too much difficulty.
I hope Grabau plays today. But if Adams is the dude, I think we CAN be okay. He has been getting a lot of minutes lately.

I saw that Grabau practiced yesterday so I believe that he will be playing today, which is good news for us.

Money's coming in on CU- down to 2 points.

Line opened at Wyoming -1 and was bet up by the smart money to -3 last night and now 74% of the public is betting Colorado and that is what has brought it back to -2.

Will be heading there in about an hour or so (remember, I walk and it's dark and windy right now), but will be there.

As I said at the top of this thread, I felt good about this one, but even better after watching it. We didn't play our best game--e.g., didn't shoot free throws well, didn't knock down some open threes--but we beat the buffs. Most fans from an opposing team I've seen in a decade--the buffs are excited about their basketball team--but in general I found them to have remarkably short memories of college basketball history and tradition (spoke to several during halftime). You'd think they'd invented the sport or something. Great win Pokes!

Great crowd and lots of energy & noise. IMO the announced attendance was less than was actually there - I'm guessing at least 10,000. I salute the students - they showed up in good numbers.

Wyoming was the better/smarter team tonight and our coaching staff out-coached theirs. When they shut down a part of our game, we found a way to get another part going. When Grabau went out with knee problems, Adams did a very good job off the bench. This Wyoming team grew up and matured last night and it's going to go a long way in helping us in conference play.

Yeah, I give Grabeau props for trying, but he should just take it easy until his knees are better. Don't want him to cause any permanent damage.

And Adams was explosive, I liked it!
