Game Thread

From what i saw Stover doesn't look comfortable in a power offense. He always looks for the cutback instead of plowing ahead and trusting the line. They may just want him through the program and clear up another spot. I like Hill and at this point of the season his fresh legs along with Tapscott legs were looking very strong. When Wick comes back for Boise I'm hoping we can implement both Hill and Wick to get that win. Kolby looks great, line looked poised and determined. Even the ragtag defense was looking good. Was this just one of those football anomalies, or have we turned the corner? I'm hoping the Bohl system has taken root and we push forward.

Not to be Debbie Downer, and I agree that the team looked good. On the other hand, Fresno is an absolute mess right now. They are a terrible team. We looked good against a bad team, which is encouraging, but it is still against a bad team.

Yep, playing Greenlee backfired big time. The team had no confidence in him. Makes you appreciate Colby. The run game was incredible, but obviously Wyo will not eviscerate every opponent with the simplest of run plays like last night. No trickery, the play-calling didn't improve...Wyoming just flat out wanted it more.

I'm very curious to see this team vs. USU. That will tell the tale if Wyo has turned a corner, or if Fresno was a tad flukish.

This game reminded me a little of last week's Boise State-BYU game. If Boise better than BYU? Yes. Are they 42 points in one half better than BYU? Not really, BYU quit. This is what happens when you set the bar high like BYU/Fresno fans have and fail.

The play calling didn't change but the protection scheme changed and that is what made the difference. Having 7 on the line gave Colby plenty of time to pass and opened up holes for Hill.

I know, I'm just saying it's unlikely the run game will be that effective next week. SDSU put 7 on the line v. Reno last night and got whipped up front. There are better defenses in the MW. The scheme was great, but I doubt Wyoming plays a team going forward this season that will play quite like Fresno did.

I was more impressed that our receivers were able to create the needed separation on Fresno secondary to complete passes. I think if they keep getting that type of separation and it allows us to leave 7 in to protect Colby our offense can make that happen against the teams left on the schedule.

It used to be you'd still keep your RS if you play in less than 10% of your teams game in a season, so in FB that's one free pass, has this changed?

Otherwise great game by Hill and Colby, and the entire team and staff. This victory is spread across the board!

I thought in FB that once you play one down, you burn your RS. Injuries may be different than a regular RS. The rules in Bball are different and the 10% thing sounds about right, though.
 
From my understanding, Once a RS is pulled it's done but the coach has a certain amount of time after the start of the year to declare who is being redshirted.

This is why injuries that occur after the 4th game in the season are almost always denied for a medical redshirt. Where as someone injured during the first 1-2 weeks could still get a Medical Redshirt.

While the redshirt status may be conferred by a coach at the beginning of the year, it is not confirmed until the end of the season, and more specifically, it does not rule a player ineligible in advance to participate in the season. If a player shows great talent, or there are injuries on the team, the coach may remove the redshirt status and allow the player to participate in competition for the remainder of the year.

I don't think Stover is by any means the future star RB, but by playing him 3-4 plays last game, he is no longer RSing this season. He still can next season, but unless Hill gets hurt or completely worn out, he will at most get 3-6 carries a game.
 
Stover? He won't see the field as a RB once Wick and May are back. He will be buried deep in the depth chart the rest of his career.

Wick only has 1 more year. May, it depends on his knee and his confidence in it going forward.
 
Once Wick and May are gone, we have Hill and Tapscott and any new guys that are brought in (like the nation's leading Has rusher in this next class). If Stover wants some time on the field, it might be in his best interest to switch sides of the ball...like Kankalongo. Hell, he has a RS year now to learn the defense.
