It's more of a compliment to JJ. He's a damn good rebounder and could be a damn good shot blocker, too. He was everywhere vs Bristol.

That's great! I'm not looking to knock anyone or poo poo JJ. Just saying if he's our biggest inside presence that might be rough come Cal and conference. Sounds like Barnes and Naughton are gonna have to fill in that muscle/boards role on this team. If those two can at least be paint enforcers we could have a chance. Herndon is gonna have to up productivity somewhere. Whether it be pulling 4's out of the paint to loosen up D's, knocking down deep 2's and 3's, or maybe getting guys in foul trouble. He needs to snap up some boards too and get a few easy 2's. I'm a little worried because he's just more of a complex piece to fit in which isn't always easy especially if he doesn't have much natural aggression or the weight to throw around.

I hear you about Herndon. I was hoping he would embrace playing down low, but it doesn't look to me like he's interested in rebounding or playing interior d. Just jacking threes. We'll see how he plays and is used tonight. I'm very excited to see this team play an actual game. Just to throw it out there, James is a prototypical slasher. He would penetrate off the bounce and good things would happen. If JJ can do this then that'll give us Adams and JJ slashing and dishing so maybe it is good to have someone like Herndon waiting around to jack threes. But Herndon's got to make his threes or else he needs to drastically change his game.

Yeah and call me old fashioned but I'm not necessarily in love with the idea of a 4 man looking to jack up 3's. I'd much rather have a 4 looking to control the paint with some range added on later to stretch more when not respected. We don't really need more 3's with our lineup. We need some meat to eat up boards, shutdown interior players, and work the low blocks on O. The new age offenses do call for more stretch 4 stuff but I'm just not totally sold on it. I say get those boards, kick it out and around some more for another shot or just stick it back in down low. 90's style baby!

I guess another question is how well we can adjust lineup styles with our players. So if Herndon is a stretch 4 while he's in we have to shift our offensive and defensive mentalities. Our bench comes in and we might have a more traditional setup. Can the guys figure out each others strengths and weaknesses? We're gonna have to mesh some different platoons this year and look for as much possible productivity within the setups. I love the versatility of it but its also harder when we might have 3 different styles of play on both sides of the court to figure out. Chameleon basketball. Success for Shyatt this year might hinge on his fluidity for the shifts.

Agree and I would also add Marshall as a slasher who can penetrate and dish as well. Think we have the guys to get to the basket or to create their own shots. Main thing is if we can get any of the big guys to do something. If we can then we should be a pretty decent team this year.

I have to work late and don't get to watch it, which sucks. I will be peeking in on it on my phone. I have no idea what to expect out of this game. Go Pokes!

Vegas has us as a 5 point underdog, which, given our youth seems about right.

Having seen the Pokes a couple of times in person now, I see a lot of "Wow" moments coming up this year (look for Justin James to do something spectacular, probably more than once), along with a bunch of "What was he thinking?" moments as well (look for some missed assignments on defense leading to wide open jams).

If we're going bigger, it surprises me Aka Gorski isn't starting in place of Trey

Well I imagine he wants two ball handlers out there not that Gorski can't handle it but Trey, Adams, Liebrman are the main ball handlers as you know so I guess that is what he is thinking.

They like to get up and down the court. Might be a high scoring game.

56 of their points came from their starting 1, 2, and 3 in their first game. It's going to be very important to stay in front of those guards. Trey's quickness is likely why he's starting today over Lieberman and Aka Gorski tonight.
