Game observations1.

After rewatching the game, I have to say our defense played well. They gave up some big plays but stood tall many times. Our rushing game sucked bad. That's it. We establish at least a little rushing game and this is ours. The third down conversions was bad. Even with the terrible rushing attack, we had a chance. Speaks volumes that we were in it even with the turnovers.

I agree. Our lack of a rushing game doomed us. If we were able to get into 3rd and manageable instead of 3rd and long we would have won.

Sitting here in the stands watching SDSU be awarded the trophy.

1. Second to last possession we need two yards in two plays, don't give the ball to Brian Hill once. He should go pro because clearly this coaching staff has zero faith in him.

Our offensive and defensive lines were dominated all game long.

That last possession was an absolute dumpster fire.
Our OL got owned, but I disagree about our DL. Our DL played good and held their own.
To a point. But we have ZERO pass rush.
We obviously miss Granderson. Our D is beat up and more freshman started last night than juniors and seniors combined (4 vs 2). It is a young Dline that will only improve with more experience and weight gains.

They had a good game plan on defense. They were going to make us beat them deep and for the most part, we didn't do it. From that standpoint, the cold hurt us more than them. I guess that's why most cold weather games are low scoring. After we got up 10-0, they really dominated the line of scrimmage for most of the game.

I thought the play calling was fine. It's easy to second guess plays that don't work. Josh probably had the pitch option on those 2 plays at the end. Our O-line made big strides this year but they struggled last night.

We need more short slant routes to make the defense pay for putting all those bodies up front.
Exactly. This is a young team whose best years are ahead. SDSU is loaded with upperclassmen....Wyoming is not. With improved size, strength, and experience our lines will be dominate in a year.

#46 Cashh Maluiia played pretty well filling in for May. Good for him. I think we've got another backer next year. Need to find one more still, but I don't think that will be an issue with the talent that redshirted this year.

You can never make the argument for having your best player either on the sideline or not having the ball in his hands in a CRITICAL play. Inexcusable.
Most of the year, you could've easily made the argument that Josh Allen was the unit's best player.

In the past, people have criticized Vigen for being too predictable by always giving the ball to Hill in those situations. Now he's criticized because he didn't give the ball to Hill. Those plays have caught teams off guard earlier in the season. It didn't tonight. Doesn't mean it was a wrong play call. The Aztecs just executed better. Sometimes, it's good to tip your cap to the opponent for making a better play.

I can see trying that with your 6'5 QB once but he was stuffed because there was no push all game and yes giving it to Hill probably would have resulted in the same thing. The running game wasn't there period save for a few good runs. Once wasn't a bad call. Twice probably was. Maybe it's telling of how comfortable he was giving it to hill based on how the game played out? But that's why I'm not an OC haha and not suggesting Vigen be fired.

They handled the cold weather better than us. That should have been an advantage. There were at least four muffed center exchanges with Allen which could have been the cold.

Normally Josh's QB draws worked throughout the year too but last night that wouldn't have been possibly. More times than not he had 1.5 seconds to make a decision.

Vigen needs to be fired.
Why? Just because he used a pure vanilla offense like in the first two games? Because he played nice guy and didn't try any deception? Because he thought just running them over was the best method? Gee, you really are a meanie.

I want to win. By going vanilla you become predictable and lose! We need a killer mentality.

Apparently I did. LOL

Although I'll admit the loss saved us from playing Houston in Vegas. Got a feeling they would destroy us if we did play them.
