It’s not like Svoboda is totally unproven. He did pretty well against Texas. I think with a new offense, and a great stable of RBs, good receivers - Wyoming surprises people this year. The D should be as strong as we’ve seen. I just am not seeing the downside. We didn’t have a lot of turmoil in the coaching change.

That is wild to me. I understand Montana State is a very good FCS team and New Mexico has been one of the worst FBS teams the past couple years, but that large of a spread is surprising to me. Especially with this game being in Albuquerque.

Personally, I suspect New Mexico will win this game. Bronco is a good coach and will have that New Mexico team ready.

I think they're looking heavily at last year's MSU team, which was good.. probably should have won their FCS quarterfinal game against NDSU. Pretty sure Chambers graduated, so their offensive production might tail off a little bit. Starting QB has trouble keeping healthy. Wouldn't surprise me to see MSU beat New Mexico.

Vigen is MSU's head coach. I think he will want to make sure his team puts on a good show. Beating a MW opponent on its home field would be a feather in his cap.

Totally agree with you about Vigen. I think anytime a "lower level" team has the chance to beat "big brother" on their home field, they are motivated to do so.

I just think Bronco is a better coach than Vigen. Bronco will not want to start off his tenure at New Mexico with a loss at home to an FCS team. The Lobos will be ready to play and I don't think MSU has a big enough talent advantage to overcome it. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lobos win this one by 14+. But Vegas usually knows better than I do, so we will see.

Not sure if this is common knowledge. Most of you seem to be way ahead of me regarding the inner workings of the team. But I was listening to the Ryan Thorburn podcast and was quite surprised the offense is going no huddle this year. And that the offense is going to more of a spread formation like when Brett Smith was here. If Svoboda isn't any good, it's going to be a really long year.

This is big news. A complete change of identity on offense? Spread and no huddle can certainly have it's advantages but doesn't lend well to resting the defense. We will know early on if this change is a positive one

You can run a no huddle offense and rest if you have a system to communicate the plays coupled with well conditioned and disciplined players.

It's important to note that a no-huddle offense does not necessarily mean a fast paced hurry-up offense. You can run a no-huddle offense and still slow down the game considerably.

I would not be a fan of this team running a hurry-up offense of any kind. That requires a fairly deep talent pool at the skills positions, especially wide receiver. I do not think that is something that we have at the moment. You also have to have a QB that is very good at quickly reading a defense pre-snap. I don't really know if that is a strong point of Svoboda's or not.

In my opinion, the bread and butter of the offense needs to remain the run game again this year. Waylee, when healthy, is the best RB in the MWC and one of the best in the nation. We also have plenty of depth behind him. DJ Jones is going to surprise some people this year. If both stay healthy, I would not be surprised at all to see both as All-MWC selections at the end of the year.

After years of "three yards and a cloud of dust", I knows folks are eager to see a revamped offense with more balance, but I just don't think we have the wide receivers to open up the passing game much at all. I guess we will find out soon enough.
