From Slick Willy himself,
"I believe that we're going to compete for championships sooner (rather) than later," Schroyer said. "Is that going to happen in one day? No. But I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe that with my heart and my soul. I believe without a shadow of a doubt that this place can be great. We have a lot of work to do. There are a lot of things that need to be done, but I have a clear vision of where we're going to take this program. I couldn't be more excited, but I also understand that it's a tough challenge."
I think I heard this exact speech about 8 years ago. The funniest part is the part about a clear vision.
He went on to elaborate in the following quote,
"We're going to play a style of basketball that is appealing to the players. We'll bring in talent that you're not accustomed to seeing at this school and lots of it. Then, my preference is just to hand them a basketball and let them figure it out for themselves. I may occasionally yell a curse word loud enough for people to hear in Nashville, but that's about all I do. I recruit, I watch, and I curse. After about four or five years I'll start kissing someone's ass at a different school when it's obvious I don't know what I'm doing. I'll get my next job lined up and then quit before everyone gets fired. I'll convince everyone on the team to leave so when the new coach comes in it doesn't look like I'm the reason we failed."
Okay, I might have made up that second quote, but the first one was real.
Here is another real quote from the guy that made it happen at UT-Marlin.
Schroyer, 42, has spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach on Dave Rice's staff at UNLV. UT Martin athletic director Julio Freire was an associate athletic director at UNLV from 2010-13.
''I have known him to be the kind of person that I'd want coaching my own son, but more importantly, I know him to be the type of person that I want coaching our 15 young men that are known as the UTM men's basketball program,'' Freire said.
This should tell you that Freire was part of the problem at UNLV. If he wants Heath coaching his son, he must have decided he didn't need to ever watch a practice.
I've got three years until this thing turns into a colossal ball of shit for You'll See Marlin.
Here's the article if you want a quick laugh.
