Frank Solich

Do you think he has been contacted? Would he be a good fit?
To many people have heard of him so that takes hime out of contention.
Draw a random DIII coaches name out of a hat and thats probably who we end up with.

On a more serious note i bet Solich could do alright in Laramie

Solich has been at Ohio since 2005. My feeling is that he has likely been approached by other (bigger) programs in that time and has opted to stay in place and doesn't have a reason to make what is arguably a lateral move (slightly bigger conference, but more of a rebuilding project). I doubt he has been contacted but, yes, would probably be a good fit.

Roach was in his late 50's on my estimate. he's in his low 80's now?

(personally knowing Jesus like Solich and Roach could help on the recruiting front, good connection to have)

Did Solich's team beat us last time we played against them? If so, then he is an upgrade.

Speaking of Midwesterners, (which I think is wise) I have been impressed by how Wisconsin has sustained its program as the identity of the coach has changed since Barry Alverez took over. Is there a member of that staff that would be a viable candidate for us? I certainly do not think the recruiting contacts from that part of the world would have the trouble acclimating to Laramie that the Texans have had. They play seriously tough-nosed ball as well.

Well they did beat Utah State a couple of years ago in the......whatever bowl. He got screwed by Nebraska IMHO.

Agreed. I was irritated at UNL over that deal until they got rid of the AD that pulled that nonsense.

(Full disclosure: I attended UNL for grad school, so I am not unbiased.)

Wisconsin has only 1 true holdover on the new Gary Anderson staff. Assistant head coach/RB coach Thomas Hammock spent 2 years with Brett Bielema and now this year under Anderson. Everyone else on staff is in their first year and most came from Utah State. Over the last 2-3 years several former Wisconsin coordinators have become head coaches at other FBS schools including Paul Chryst at Pitt and Dave Dorean at Northern Illinois and now NC State.

On a side note, ironically similar to our situation, one of the reasons Bielema attributed to his leaving for Arkansas last year was the lack of better salaries for his assistants.
