For whatever its worth (or not) Lindy's pre-season all MWC

I found this a bit interesting...

I recently purchased Lindy's 2014 MWC magazine, and something I saw made me arch an eyebrow.

They list the pre-season all-MWC teams, both 1st and 2nd teams.

A total of 2 teams featuring a total of 50 players.

Of the teams in the MWC, guess which team has the most players listed between the 2 combined lists?

If you guessed Boise State you'd be wrong - they had 5.

It wasn't San Diego State either (4), or CSU (3), or UNLV (4) or San Jose St (1) or Air Force (2)

Yes, it was WYOMING (tied with Fresno St. & Utah St.)

The Pokes have a total of 6 players listed, 2 on the 1st team (Shaun Wick & Eddie Yarbrough) and 4 on the 2nd team (Jake Jones, Patrick Mertens, Jordan Stanton, Blair Burns).

Wyoming, Fresno State and Utah State led the pack, each with 6 players noted.

Interesting.

I have a lot of confidence in this team. But I also understand that some people don't want to get their hopes up. Since I'm a Wyo fan I hope those people are pleasantly surprised this year

I tend to lean towards Phil Steele or Athlon for college football preview magazines....Lindy's has different predictions for different magazines depending on which version you bought. They quite literally make predictions to appease the fans of that area. There were three different MW previews last year...I saw two of them. One had Fresno winning the MW, the other Boise.

Steele is almost always spot on. I'm eager to see his magazine come out. Athlon is shaky at times on picks, but puts together a good magazine.

Athlon has Wyoming going 5-7 (3-5)....nothing terribly revealing....Bohl was great at NDSU, losing Smith/Herron is huge...blah blah blah.

Would that be seen as a huge disappointment by Wyo fans?

Nope...sounds reasonable to me. I was not trying to infer that's bad...only that they didn't really provide any insight.

The team went 5-7 last season....and that was with an easier schedule and Smith still on the team. It would be pretty harsh for anyone to get pissed off with Bohl going 5-7 in year #1 considering the circumstances.

OK, thanks for clarifying. Couldn't tell what you meant.

I think 5-7 is a pretty good estimate of what can happen. I think they can exceed expectations to become bowl eligible, but even I'm not foolish enough to expect that in year one.

For whatever else it may be worth, despite a conference high six (6) all-MWC players, Lindy's has Wyoming no place near a post season bowl game appearance.

FYI.
