7,000 used to be way under average for UW. Sad we are pumped up about 7,000 - but we all know why. I unfortunately think that between Burman & Heath, some fans are simply never going to return though, regardless. That damage cannot be undone."
You hit the nail on the head! Wasn't at the Nevada game Saturday but I am sure the noise level didn't come close to that in the earlier days of the arena. Think I probably attended every game where the attendance was 9,000 or above (and sadly many more recently where it was far lower) and that was when the noise level was so high it was impossible to hear the person sitting next to you saying anything. You are correct about "some fans are simply never going to return though,..."; I know several in Cheyenne who decided that Burman's firing of McClain after saying it was not a critical year for him and a few whose wives did not like some of the language one could hear coming from Heath during some games were reasons enough to drop their season tickets.
See on the other board some praising the renovations to the AA; frankly I am not one of them. I have always thought having the visiting team shooting into the truck ramp was more of an advantage than shooting into a background of fans (maybe it depth perception is not the problem I think it is with no real focal points to relate to). I can buy into upgrading locker rooms and maybe a few other things but the necessity for two practice floors and turning the floor and other cosmetic things doesn't impress me. For me it has always been the product on the court that brought the fans to the game and recruits wanting to be part of the program. Darn, we must have had some pretty good coaches prior to Heath to be able to win as many games as they did not having two practice floors and all! Frankly I have thought for several years that Burman keeps bringing up major projects to distract somewhat from the lack of product on the field or floor (which reflects back on his administrative abilities, or lack thereof; expect in a couple of years if the basketball attendance for men's games has not improved significantly he will be pushing for a major (several millions) upgrade to Corbett for swimming and diving (agree that it surely could use some improvement for diving especially).
Oh well, enough from an old fart who has some good memories from games at the AA.
