Football starts tomorrow....

Well, considering how terrible our secondary was last season, maybe a bunch of players who haven't seen the field along with a new and proven secondary coach (Mallory) is actually a good thing. He doesn't need to erase bad habits in existing players as much as teach new and impressionable minds.

Right?

....maybe? That or this group of freshman play like, you know.....freshman....and get whipped all season.

Like I said, Washington tried this last season (plethora of freshman starting/playing). They coughed up 475 passing yards, 7 TDs, and 52 points to an FCS school in their home debut. And that was with 5-Star/4-Star freshman!

We HOPE that this group of freshman is highly talented, but that is no guarantee. There is absolutely the possibility that they struggle mightily.

Bohl had a quote today regarding incoming freshman Andrew Wingard. The Colorado Player of the Year had two picks in practice this morning.....and according to Bohl....they weren't easy picks. Decent size and speed. You could be right, teach them right from the get go and we won't have to worry about bad habits.

Go Pokes!!

Will be interesting. Good thing we have North Whatever and Eastern Whomever, along with the East-coast Moonshine Ridge Runners of NC on the schedule. Will give the kids some exposure / experience without being throttled by the Michigan State's and Oregons of the college football world.

If this conference were a replica of the 80's and 90's air attacks (except AFA of course), we could quite possibly find ourselves winless. Thankfully it is not.

Damn. USU that low, UNLV that high? WTF. Colby took a lot of the blame for pretty much everything last fall. Sure hope Coffman is the massive upgrade we like to think he is.

If nothing else, Coffman has a much better resume. Led his JC to its first appearance in a JC National title game. Started for a B10 team. And ending up in the top 10 for many passing categories in that schools history. Colby was a good team member, did what was asked, but was 3rd string at the end of spring ball last year.

Yeah, I do hope that was from playmaking and not crappy passing.

Wasn't Wingard a WR? When did he make the switch?

PS- I will eat crow. Jason Thompson is ripping it up at Univ of Utah in secondary. I never thought he would sniff the field. Moving guys around can yield results.

That surprised me too. AF and CSU are T25 (I think) in passing efficiency. USU only climbs to something like 72 and not far ahead of us in passing efficiency. Definitely not that many great passing offenses in the MWC.

True freshman safety.

In regards to moving players around.....I hope DJ May becomes the reverse Al Rich. Rich was a great defensive player....moved to running back and got hurt. DJ May has the speed we need in the secondary/linebacker positions.

That, a punt return by New Mexico, and a 2nd half breakdown at Hawaii. If Colby finds the open receiver (that everyone except him saw) and if we stop New Mexico from a late punt return...we go bowling with that schedule from hell. Even though the Pokes finished 4-8....they were close to going bowling.

NCAA passing offense stats. I believe they use total passing yards primarily if not exclusively. They also have passing efficiency, passing yards per completion, etc.
