Football schollies

I'm looking forward to seeing Tom Thornton playing this spring. Rather than riding the bench this past season and possibly burning a red shirt to play in a game or two, he opted for arriving in January as a grey shirt. I expect to see him red shirt in '13 and he'll be a RS freshman when Smith is in his senior season. Prior to becoming our potential starter he'll have 3 spring camps and 3 summer sessions under his belt. He will also have 2 seasons on the sidelines to learn the system. On top of all that, he is now 1 year more physically mature by delaying his arrival. If he has talent level even close to Brett Smiths, I think the added development time will pay dividends. I also believe he will have a better receiving corps to work with than Brett has had these past 2 seasons.

And since DC has been here we have had 2 All-American recruits, both playing long snapper! Yeah good job!

And before coach DC? I'm guessing Marcus Harris wasn't a 4 or 5 star guy. Wyoming has never had a good recruiting class ever looking strictly at what high school kids we get. It's about getting kids that develop and coaching.
Wendling and Chris Pro seem to be doing just fine and neither were 4 or 5 star guys. People who put stock in rivals rating system and quality of players based on BCS schools recruiting them have no clue about lower tier programs and how they develop. Boise didnt have great recruiting classes till they started winning, and before that they found diamonds in the rough that could be coached to be great players. Too many negative nancies on this thread.

I'm not putting everything into the star rating. I am saying that we are competing with FCS schools for offers. That is no lie.

Most two star guys will get offers from FCS programs espcially instate ones or regional ones Hell even 3-5 star guys probably get them but they don't show up on the rivals site. Nothing like making a mountain out of a mole hill till you see them play.

What happened to BeaverPoke...he went from the biggest homer on the board to a downer (although an added level of objectivity).

We have never recruited top classes. A lot of people used to say that DC recruits a lot better than Glenn and I don't find that to be necessarily true. DC recruits better offensive talent. Glenn recruited better defensive talent.

That said, I like the fact that we are recruiting JUCOs this year to capitalize on Brett Smith's remaining 2 years. Although we will definitely suffer from a lack of depth a few years down the road...but I say go all in now.

Oh and let's be honest. Marcus Harris and Jay Novacek are pretty irrelevant to recruiting comparisons these days. Back then, information was not shared anywhere as quickly and many recruits had to send videos of themselves to colleges of their choices to get any notice at all. These days, any talented player will certainly be noticed.

LoveboxPoke is cheerleading on the Basketball board these days.
