Football is a simple game...

You block and tackle. You win. If you can't do those two things, you aren't giving yourself much of a chance. Too many missed tackles tonight. Wrap up and don't let go!

Tackling is easier to learn than being in the right place and keeping your coverage, though. At least Pokes did quite awesome in that department. MUCH better than I expected.

As far as blocking goes... there's a lot to learn there, but I think that overall they did a decent job considering the opponent.

That said, I'm really wondering if Texas is even close to as good as they were a year ago. Guess their games vs TT and Sooners will reveal the truth.

The Texas defense was better than a year ago, their offense maybe not quite as good. One thing is for sure though, Wyoming not having a decent run game allowed them to send 7 after Austin on just about every play.

I agree with the tackling. Too many times we had the player with the ball and suddenly he was gone. The good thing is that we did have him, so we were in the right place. Tackling will improve as will another week of our D playing the new system. Statistically , until their final drive UT weren't too far ahead of us (except the score!). I actually feel pretty good about this weeks game vs BSU. The one thing I wish we'd do is to have ACS throw the ball more down field. I realize we don't want to have turn overs but we need to have our play makers make plays. Throw it deep on third down and hope for a play, rather than run for a yard or so or throw it out of bounds. The result is a punt that will give them the ball anyway, so let's take a shot.

Bolger, Leonard, and even Alexander were consistent receivers yesterday, but Herron missed a very catchable pass that was at a critical junction of the game. I know he is fast, but he needs to catch the ball. Austin will not throw to him if he doesn't have confidence that he can catch it. Austin did very well considering the time he had.
I agree, we are very close to putting it together. The score wasn't bad considering UT got a TD after we had subbed in our backups and they still had their starters in, and the fact we were playing in heat and humidity in front of 100,000 hostile fans.
