First commitment

Other offer came from Air Force. Stats are okay. Dual-threat that prefers to run vs. throw. Doesn't play in a pro-style system. Appears to be a project type with upside. He has the potential to be good down the road, but will need the Bohl polishing.

Just saw on the SBNation post about the signing that Garrett's head coach at Mustang is for Cowboy Jeremy Dombeck.

Dombeck used to play for Henryetta (the Fighting Chicks - No joke, guys, that is their nickname). He broke records set by another Henryetta QB who's now in the NFL Hall of Fame, Troy Aikman.

Garrett has been a name to watch within the state since his sophomore season. His story has been the same for two seasons. Garrett doesn’t excel in an Elite 11-like camp setting. But allow Garrett to show you what he can do when it matters, and he’s the ultimate gamer.

Garrett also had an offer from Air Force and had received interest from several Big 12 schools but felt at home with the Wyoming coaching staff.

His commitment continues the incredible job the Wyoming coaching staff has done in recruiting the state. That will continue this week when Wyoming has a satellite camp at Oklahoma City Bishop McGuinness.

Garrett is the state’s third quarterback to commit to a Division I school. Del City’s Terry Wilson is pledged to Nebraska, while Tulsa Lincoln Christian’s Micah Wilson is committed to Boise State.

Garrett spent all of the offseason working on his delivery, and the results were clear for all to see during the spring. Coincidentally, Mustang coach Jeremy Dombek played for Wyoming. Garrett, unintentionally, will be following in the footsteps of his coach.

On Saturday, Chandler Garrett told the Star-Tribune that Wyoming ranked atop his list of college choices.

On Sunday, the 6-foot-4, 214-pound quarterback from Mustang, Oklahoma, made it official by giving the Cowboys their first verbal commitment from the class of 2016.

Now, he hopes to get more recruits from the Sooner State to tag along to UW.

“I’m excited to be the first one,” Garrett said. “... I’m looking forward to trying to get some of my boys to come out there with me.”

Wyoming currently has 10 other offers out to Oklahomans, many of whom Garrett is familiar with. Wyoming also signed four Oklahoma high school players for its 2015 class, tied for the most of any state.

“I’m pretty close with most of them.” he said. “The football community around here, we all go to camps together and work out together. ... We definitely have a tight-knit bond down here.”

Garrett, ranked by 247 Sports and Rivals as a three-star recruit, took an unofficial visit to Laramie last week. His family met with UW coach Craig Bohl and offensive coordinator Brent Vigen. He also toured the Cowboys’ facilities and met with a representative from the College of Business, which he plans to enroll in.

“That pretty much sealed the deal,” said Garrett, who had another FBS-level offer from Air Force. “... They wanted to see if I was interested in taking the next step forward and I went out there with my family. It sealed the deal.”
