There are a ton of talented coaches out there making a name for themselves that we could hire to come in and ignite the team. The reason our team looks overmatched is because of zero coaching, and the players not belieieving in themselves. I believe the talent is there, but the coaching is not. Breske coached with the tools given to him and made an outstanding defense. Look at Guy Tuell one of the smallest players at a linebacker postion but consistently played with fire.
Brady Hoke took over a defense at Michigan that ranked last in the FBS under Rodriguez. His first year they ranked 55th. Not stellar, but goes a long way to winning games, and it was with the same players Rodirguez had recruited. Let's go to a program like Alabama and take their LB coach, or find a very good up and comer and grab him to see what he can do. Breske is never coming back to Laramie, and neither is Koening.
Everyone is throwing names around. One I am going to throw out and will be run over by most people on this board is Randy Shannon. A very good recruiter and was setup at Miami by an out of control booster. Randy is currently at TCU as a linebackers coach so he has ties to Texas now, and I am sure he know of some good coaches to bring in. I know Bouknight was a WR, but could be a very good secondary coach, and has Wyoming ties.
What about John L Smith at Arkansas. He will more than likely only coach this one season, so why not bring him back to once again be the D Coordinator lie he was in 1986 under Erickson.

This is just my view, but Wyoming settled for a terrible coach that cannot inspire his players. A simple term is, "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard!" The team has the potential, but no leadership to bring out their strengths.

Or why not bring Vance Joseph back. He coached for a season in 2002 at Wyoming, and played and coached at Colorado. He is the secondary coach for the Texans now. He seems like a great fit for Wyoming.

We need someone who can fire the guys up to play some hard nosed football. The fire in the eyes just isn't there.

The bottom line reason why Joe Glen was let go (besides the fact he wasn't winning) was because he wouldn't get rid of anyone on his staff even when they weren't getting the job done. This was because they had been on his staff for umpteen years and were his friends. I see a similar type situation developing with this staff. Christensen is only hiring friends or coaches he was associated with in the past - regardless of their ability to get the job done. A successful head coach will recognize who on his staff is not getting the job done and make changes immediately. If he doesn't, he won't be a head coach for long. There are also some very good assistant coaches who decide they can't work with certain head coaches. Peterson is a very good and smart coach who has put together a great staff who completely believe in him and who get the job done. Look at the difference in tackling between Boise State & Wyoming. You might say this is talent level, but a large part of the assistant's job is recruiting. Peterson took a team that had lost a tremendous number of key personnel at the end of last season and a team that really didn't look all that good at the beginning of this season to a team that is very good at this time of the season. That is great coaching. Wyoming on the other hand, has not improved at all.
