Fire the o coordinator . He freaking sucks

Demote him and let Jovon take over. Then let him go at the end of the season. Use the payout from the pac-stabbers to buy him out. Get someone with some freaking creativity!

I might grab a pitchfork and torch except I'm trying to remember all the times we've called for offensive coordinator changes and the offense improved substantially after a change?

I’ve seen enough. 14 and a half games. He blows. Freaking loser
Correct!

The three names to watch are Mike Bath, Mike Grant, and Josh Firm. All have ties to Wyoming. The issue is that the new HC chose this OC, it was his pick. His career at Wyoming may be tied to this hire or fire. Time will tell.

Mike Bath is unemployed after terrible OC seasons in the MAC.

Mike Grant might be the worst coach in NCAAF. He must have had dirt on someone at UW to stick around for so long and coach a terrible WR group

Josh Firm is not even close to FBS OC ready

Kind of over the "Wyoming ties" lines as it does not seem to work out.

Unfortunately that is why Wyoming is in the spot that they find themselves in. People didn't like the job Craig Bohl had done, didn't like Brent V, didn't like Tim Polasek. So new HC Jay talked that up, talked up about winning MW Championships and was hired and he brought in a "great OC" with zero WYOMING ties and supposedly a great track record. He listen to the fans!

He has been at Colorado, Michigan St, Minnesota, Louisville, Georgia. He hasn't been anywhere longer than four years and it seems that the previous stops aren't trying to get him back. Take that for what it is worth.

Until the Oil and Gas folks pour into Wyoming athletics you may need to decide if you want a person with Wyoming ties that coached under a HOF coach in Craig Bohl, who put more players in the NFL than any other coach in the history of the Wyoming football program. In the 14 seasons of Mountain West play before Craig Bohl arrived, Wyoming had only had one 8 win season. Bohl had Four. In the 14 years before Bohl, Wyoming had been to just three bowl games. Bohl has taken us to Six. Bohl also won us our first division championship since the WAC era.

Some Wyoming fans are delusional and that is why they hired the current HC, becuase people started to think the problem was Craig Bohl and his staff, when in reality the problem is lack of money and the President and AD need to hit corporate sponsors (Oil & Gas) like no ones business.

This new HC/OC is what the fans wanted now they have to live with it. I hope someone with some common sense goes back to the Wyoming identity that C. Bohl created and hires a former coach to who was part of the winning culture to help bring that time back, I just hope it is doesn't take 14 years and only one 8 win season to get that common sense back. But based on your post, I might have to buckle up and wait it out!

Beg to differ. Pretty sure most wanted a national search instead of hiring from within. And no one was excited about a re-tread OC that has never done well

This doesn’t seem accurate at all to me. I can’t recall anyone on here excited about the OC hire. Multiple posters noted that Jay Johnson struggled mightily at putting together any sort of competent offense in his last few years at Michigan State before his termination and how that likely would not translate very well to a school like Wyoming with less athletic talent.

Regarding Craig Bohl:

He was rather popular and brought a level of enthusiasm with the program becoming perpetually bowl eligible.

The criticism that focused unfairly on the OC’s was that after 2016 the offense routinely sucked and the inability to use the forward pass kept the program from competing for a MWC championship.

When Bohl advertised the national search his first QB signing was Svoboda. Peasley came along a week later. The writing was already on the wall as Vigen was no longer the OC but the HC at Montana State where he led the team to the FCS championship game with a prolific offense that utilized the forward poss.

Polasek had Peasley and no one else. Bohl expected almost every play to be running through the right guard and Polasek obliged just as Vigen did. In the case of Polasek all he accomplished in his first year as HC of NDSU was win the FCS championship with a juggernaut offense unafraid to use the forward pass as a weapon.

I don’t personally know a single Wyoming fan in my circle that wanted an inside hire and staff retention ala Shyatt style. Myself, I am less than 50% favorable towards Sawful mostly because he did not recognize immediately he had a major offense problem starting with the QB spot. This year things are looking a little better and there is a chance the team might get to 6 wins if they beat CU in a relatively weaker MWC. I do like some of the new players and if they can be retained along with additional recruits that are playmakers maybe Wyoming can be a team expected to exceed 6 wins next year.

Next year - it’s a perpetual Wyoming hope.

I posted fairly frequently about the horror stories and angered fan bases (notably MSU) that Johnson has left in his wake. I actually have a business colleague who is a huge Spartan fan and donor. He called me and said he was contemplating sending me a sympathy card when JJ was hired - he is widely despised in East Lansing.

The thing that kept Bohl from competing for the MWC title was himself and his refusal to play offense.

He didn’t actively pursue a quality QB instead favoring projects. Take Caden Becker for example. He was being groomed to be the next QB up but left when he wasn’t even going to make it as a D end. 2 years later he couldn’t crack into playing QB at Midland and just like Svoboda switched to TE where he has played sparingly and lasted only 1 season. We all know the identical story with Svoboda and Levi Williams who was a bench rider at USU. Remember the walk on baseball player awarded a scholarship? The list of QB’s Bohl recruited who never played QB anywhere is long.

Bohl was a good coach but too stubborn to recognize his offense style was his stumbling block. I personally discussed this with Burman at the potato bowl and got lip service that “yes” improvement was needed with the offense. Maybe you know some fans that have a problem with delusions of grandeur about next season every year. They are the same ones who absorb the UW press releases and think the spin is golden.

Wyoming’s biggest problem with corporate sponsorship is there are basically zero big money corporations headquartered in Wyoming despite doing some business there.

I disagree that Bohl could have magically won MWC titles if he just switched offensive strategy. Bohl’s gameplan was always predicated on keeping the game close and hoping to be able to run the ball in the 4th QTR. Bohl running a spread offense probably would have put up more points but probably would have resulted in worse records and more blowout losses.
