Sawvell needs to be fired NOW. He doesn't have a clue as to how to manage and lead a football team to success. He will be fired eventually, that's how he'll leave the position he is not in any way qualified for, but sadly, based on Burman's past, the players, their families, and all Wyoming fans will have to suffer a LOT more before it happens. Sawvell knows it; he knows he is in way over his head, he knows he can't pick the right coordinators, can't prepare the correct game plans, can't react quickly and make appropriate game time adjustments, etc., but he won't do the honorable thing and that is resign. Burman knows too. He knows listening to Bohl droll on about Sawvell, who Bohl knew would hire his son, was a giant mistake, but he is not a decision maker. It is easier for him to turn away and hope the reincarnation of Vic Koenning can scrape out 2-3 more wins. FIRE Sawvell NOW!!!
 
Other than firing Sawvel now, what’s your plan? Promoting an assistant, who? And we are going to let Burman handle this process, why?

We pay Sawvel the exact same amount of money whether we fire him today or fire him in November 2027. Burman buried this program. There is no saving it for the next 1.5 years minimum. Let’s be honest.

What needs to happen - - the new President has to be a good choice in spring 2026 (nothing like Seidel ever again). The new President and BOT need to come in and completely overhaul the AD and football coach positions. There has to be a serious search and a serious plan to rebuild a program. There has to be proper fundraising.

But firing Sawvel now does absolutely nothing other than setting us back even more financially. That’s the reality.

I agree Sawful is in way over his head. But, there is no expectations required of Sawful. Mediocrity is the standard. There is no expectations from Burman for anything better. Firing Sawful isn’t going to happen.that would require extra work for Burman. Attendance this year will still be okay, only because JA17 being at the Nevada game is a sellout. CSewe will likely be decent attendance, but I’m not paying another dime to attend a game this year.

I would love to see Burman go but I don't see it happening soon enough. If the plan forward for the football program was tossed on me right now, a person with no contacts and no idea who is available, I would readily accept the challenge and end this season as well or better than we would under Sawvell. I would also immediately dive into coaching availability, etc. I would put Jovon Bouknight, our receivers coach and former Cowboy standout with a great deal of coaching experience in as Sawvell's interim replacement and scour the market for options going forward.

You’re out of luck. We hired the same search firm we always hire and have a search committee that is the personification of “preserve the status quo”. Our BOT is a joke and will never deliver anything new or innovative in its current incarnation.

I see a crummy provost or disgruntled sitting President in our future. Rinse, lather, repeat.
 
It takes money to hire and fire anybody in the athletic world. I’m more concerned for our future with the current state of affairs in our legislature making cuts to even be able to run a successful athletic department. While we’re all playing Sunday morning quarterback, there’s so much more to all of this than we can ever dream of.
 
The blocked punts aside, there is no excuse for the penalty of blocking down field. The receiver has to be behind the line of scrimmage. The lack of focus and attention to detail is why Sawvel should be fired right now. It's never going to get better. Give the job to Bohl Jr. and see if he has the old man's touch. He has done a very good job with less than great talent. But Sawvel and his equally untalented OC need to leave town. In the old days, they'd be tarred and feathered.

I’ve seen much better AI created bullshit. We are pretty close to a world where telling fact from fiction becomes very very difficult.

The article you posted has many details that give away it’s just AI bullshit. Including that ‘Sawvel was hired as head coach in 2021,’ etc.
