Basketball is here (kinda)! I know we are in the middle of football season but that doesn't mean we can't get excited about practice starting today. Our team is as deep and talented as we have had since Shyatt has been here. This is his first recruiting class' senior season and in that class it features Larry Nance Jr. If he is healthy, which he is expected to be, he could end up being your MWC POY and we should be in the conversation for a conference championship and dancing in March/April. I think we could have a freshman or two contribute (including Herndon). On top of all the excitement surrounding the team, they are playing in a renovated stadium that will feature new scoreboards/video screens, a new playing surface that includes more practice space. I am still in football mode, but I am excited to see our basketball team play.

+1 Basketball is always my first love, but on top of that I expect the Pokes to be dramatically better on the hardwood than on the football field. I am nervous regarding Larry Nance's health and recovery, but there is a tremendous opportunity. I also feel like the program is making strides overall in recruiting, facility improvements, etc.

ive also been more of a hoops junky myself and man it is exciting to see that we might contend for a conference title wow, when was the last time we could say that, whew.....can't wait, i wish UW would realize that being more of a basketball school would be better for us in the long run, football is fun but not as far along as hoops is, and if we figured it out that we'd have more success as a bball school maybe the successes could be achieved easier...but that's just me

I think theres a couple reasons. One, I think our coaches have done a great job at finding guys that fly under the radar and have coached them up especially since Shyatt came back.

2. I think it is easier to overlook the cold Wyoming winters because they spend them inside the gym and on the road to warmer climates, not to mention some great facilities and the MW is a better basketball conference than football conference IMO.

also, you only need 8-10 guys for a successful basketball team for football you need a minimum of 20 so odds are tougher

That is key right there. We are one of the best Bball conferences in the country. We were down last year but were still solid and the previous year we were #1 RPI(not saying we are the best but by this one measure we were). I've seen interviews with recruits where they say something about the chance to play with the best in the MWC.

All I know is I need a fall back sport to watch some UW's win other than Womens Volleyball and Soccer. I'm ready for some Basketball!

Law of averages? The pool is also deeper. Oh, and if you have one spectacular basketball player, you can see the impact - not so much with just one spectacular football player. Just my opinion of course.

Scholarship Basketball roster of 13
Scholarship Football roster of 85

IMO, it is more about player development and coaching. There are relatively few NDSU players in the NFL, but Bohl was 7-3 against the FBS.....all on the road.

He needs more than 6 games fellas.

Go Pokes

ps. Yes, I am looking forward to basketball too.

Wyo can recruit hoops players better than football because we are a basketball school, with Larry Shyatt and Duncan as coaches. Along with the fact we don't have to find 10 to 16 300 pound athletes to be successful.
