All the posters above are ignoring the fact that Nevada is one of the best rushing teams in the country and the Pokes one of the worst at defensing such. So Nevada offence will be on the field a long time compared to the Poke's. That means less scoring time for the Pokes UNLESS there are some lucky long bombs. That situation doesn't happen all that often.

They are a solid running team, but how good is the level of competition they've faced? Not ready to give the game to Nevada just yet.

Go Pokes!!
so you're saying that nevada just played the only 5 teams with worse rushing defenses than ours?
They've played one FCS team, ranked 100th in rush defense, and the rest are as follows: Cal- 79th, South Florida- 71st, Hawaii- 106th, and Texas State- 82nd. Drill in deeper, and you'll see some pretty bad defensive stats on all of those teams across all games. In terms of rush defense, Wyoming's as bad, if not worse than anyone they've played. They lost to a decent pass defense in South Florida, and struggled against Texas State. Wyoming just needs to play with a soupcon of gap and assignment discipline and we win this game. Wyoming should be able to score very quickly against Nevada.

Pokes 49

Nevada 45

Chances I have a heart attack or stroke because of zero defense may bring the O/U a little higher.

Nevada's opponents rush defenses might not look good simply because Nevada ran over them. If you remove the Nevada game from these teams schedules they jump to about Cal-79th to 70th, So Fla-71st to 49th, NWState 100th to 79th, Hawaii 106th to 79th and Tx State 82nd to 53rd. A big reason all their rush D looks bad is because of Nevada. They've all done much better against their other opponents.

Did you give last year's Wyoming defense the same excuse? They played Nebraska, Utah State, Air Force, Temple, and TCU...all top rushing teams.

You'd have to take this into consideration. You can't say one team has a better rush D than another if they played all crap running teams and the other played all good running teams. You'd have to look at these teams rushing averages against over teams and how they compared to the Pokes. Sure, if a team rushes for 500 yards a game, but the Pokes "hold" them to 400, I'd have to say that the Pokes run defense looked pretty good. And this is really only accurate with common opponents, in conference, really. Vegas looks at all this stuff, which is why they get it right more often than us. Did Nebraska, Utah State, Air Force, Temple and TCU gain more yards on us than they averaged against everyone else, less yards or the same? That would be your answer.

What I did was take out the only constant of one team (Nevada) to see what their opponents rushing D looked like without that one game. The answer came back very positive that every team would look much better had they not played Nevada. Meaning all their other opponents not named Nevada were not running over them as easily. So my conclusion was that Nevada had a good running game, not that they only played teams that can't stop the run.
