Final play vs. Utah...

For anyone who was at, or watched the game.... that had to be staged! I was thinking of and hoping for something like that back in November when Utah pulled that crap in the football game in Salt Lake, but after time passed it never even crossed my mind coming into this game. After watching it again on DVR, Schroyer definitely set it up. After Jones makes his second FT with 14 secs left, you can see Schroyer stomping his foot to get the attention of who ever was standing under the basket, essentially indicating to let them have the lay up. Then after letting Utah score, Ewing takes the inbounds and waives Geis to come to the ball at the top of the arc, and then slides to the baseline. After drawing all the Ute pressure, Geis throws it to Ewing, who tosses it up to a streaking Taylor who had come from the other end of the court, and throws it down right as time expires, padding a 6 point lead to 8. Also interesting... right after Schroyer stomps his foot and we let Utah have the lay up, Utah's coach suddenly starts screaming at his players as if he knows something is up. Then you can see each head coach exchanging F-U's as they pass each other leaving the floor, just like Glenn and Wittingham in November. I have no problem with it, based on the football game, especially given the fact Utah never indicated any sort of remorse or indication as to what the hell they were thinking. But I have never heard of payback coming in a different sport though. Anyone hear anything on this?

If you can figure out how to get that DVR to the PC and upload.. that would be frickin' great!!

On the last play of the game, the utards contested us inbounding the ball and then when we did get it inbounds, they tried to foul us all the way down the floor. I have no problem with us scoring again - if they had backed off, we would have too. I doubt very seriously it had anything to do with the football game, but it sure serves them right. There is not a UW fan out there that will ever, ever forget that football game. Get out the brooms, we swept the utards in basketball.

I just don't think it was in response to Utah pressure, as to say since they were still playing, we decided to score. Utah was pressuring the ball, but had no intention of fouling, and made that very obvious. Ewing could have dribbled it out, and Utah's coaches reaction afterwards just leads me to believe Schroyer set it up for the event of Wyoming having a comfortable lead in the waning seconds. Why would he scream and yell at Schroyer for Ewing and Taylor just being jackasses in the final second?

Let's be honest. An authoritative alley hoop that increases a lead from 6 to 8 is not half the embarrasment 50-0 in the 3rd Qrt is, but nonetheless, I do think it was intentional. Utah has become one of the, if not the biggest overall rival recently. CSU is terrible lately, and BYU kills us in everything. Utah is the team we had to go through to win the MWC Mens title in 01-02, they are the cowgirls main competition this season, and then of course the 50-0 incident...

That was the most disgusting, unsportsman-like thing I have seen in a while -- The Ute coach protesting the dunk. that is. I hope that this gets some press so that Poke fans can reply with references to the football game.

Even though the Pokes won, the stragedy struck me as strange - Pokes shoot then clear the area to defend. Pokes only had 4 offensive rebounds to 13 for the Utes. And only 2, count 'em 2, second chance points. I also thought that Dermody, who was recently written up about his defensive play, was not up to the press hype.

not only did this happen joseph taylor made top 10 on SC again second night in a row he did when wyo had a game not a bad streak he was #4

Here is a good reason why my opinion of the people of utah is soooooo low:

Does anyone know where I can watch the replay of this? I am in St. Louis and didn't get to see it. From everything I have read, including comments made in the SL Tribune and Deseret News, it does sound like Boylen just made a huge fool out of himself for no good reason. Anyway... Nice win Pokes. Hang in there fans. I think there are good things on the horizon. Maybe not this year, but all in due time.

I couldn't find a video of the last play of the game, but here is a link to a video of the dunk Joseph Taylor made in the first part of the game (this is the one that espn rated as #4 in the nation for the day):

I was at the game, and the dunk at the end of the game was done right in front of me - not more than 10 or 12 feet away. Just like I said in an earlier post, utah was still playing (contesting the inbounds play, guarding, & trying to foul), so Ewing and Taylor continued to play also.

one thing everyone should keep in mind is that it was JT's last game in the dome of doom and he wanted to go out with a bang and did. I bet if it had not been senior day it wouldn't have happened.

What do you know, the MWC office finally got enough of Utah's coach too.

March 6, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Utah Men's Basketball Head Coach Jim Boylen has been issued a public reprimand for his disparaging comments that publicly criticized a Conference member institution's head coach. The public criticism, which appeared in various publications on Monday and Tuesday, March 3 and 4, was in violation of MWC Sportsmanship Rule Sections 4.2-e and 4.4.5.

The Mountain West Conference will have no further comment regarding this case. The provisions of the MWC Sportsmanship Policy can be found in Rule 4 of the MWC Handbook - which can be accessed via the http://www.TheMWC.com Web site.
