Favorite Border War Moment

The unexpected 44-0 beat down was fun, but I have a hard time comparing. Both teams haven't been good at the same time in years. I imagine the duels in the 80s/90s blow away anything we've seen this millennium.

JMO....but so few Rams seem to give a shit anymore. Not just about the rivalry, but CSU football altogether.

When CSU had Lubick the rivalry was great but before him and after....CSU always had/always will be the dog shit under UW's toes.

My personal favorites:

1998: Felt like Laramie that night in Fort Collins (cold) and the Pokes pulled out a victory over the defending conference champs, on the road, to go to 8-1 with the only loss a 16-9 loss @UGA. Felt like big things were happening in the program. I think this game has lost it's luster in history because the Pokes choked it away their last two games (the Tulsa game still pisses me off, talk about not showing up), but it was a big game at the time.

2006: 24-0.

The Drive in '96. I was there, it was fricking cold.
This game and the '98 fog bowl stand out for me. Great games. And yes it was cold....but managed to stay warm with a little help. :coffee:

Beating them in the cold and sending Steve Fairchild on his way in 2011 was pretty awesome. That game had me stressing!

24-0 in 2006, my first ever border war that I can remember. I had been to a few but was too lying to recall. Also,
ACS's stiff arm and run as the pokes became bowl eligible

The ACS stiff arm was freaking awesome.
That got us to bowl eligibility.
That game really kind of set the tone for the Pokes under DC I think.
That got us to .500, and into the NM Bowl. Started the streak of 4 and counting Bronze Boots.

2010 Border War. The year began badly with the death of Narcisse (RIP) and the Pokes struggled all season. Then came the Border War, one last chance to win a game before the end of the season, and Alvester Alexander ran wild all over the sheep and the defense blanked the sheep as well. Ended up becoming the biggest blowout and shutout in Border War history. And other than a certain QB leaving without notice and surprising a lot of the team, coaching staff, and fans, it would set the pace for when Brett Smith would take over.

Mine will always be the year when I really became a huge Pokes fan. It was at CSU in 1996 and Wyoming was nationally ranked. The game was on ESPN and I had to watch it on TV because my parents didn't want to go to Fort Collins for the game.

It was a snowy November day. Wyoming raced out to an early lead and then CSU scored 24 unanswered points to lead 24-13 going into the 4th qtr. I thought for sure we were going to be upset. 2 TDs later and a late stop by the defense to hold on for a 25-24 win! Marcus Harris was unstoppable that day. Every time we needed to make a play, it was just thrown up to him and he seemed to always come down with it. I think he had close to 20 receptions. Probably why he is still my all time favorite Cowboy.

Or 1996... The Drive. I was young and remember the game not being on TV. I listened to Kevin and Dave on the radio... Will never forget it!

It was on cable. My first real memory of the Border War.

Wow, young fan base on this message board.

As on "older" fan - it all makes sense now. If you never experienced the 60's, 70's and 80's - and only a small handful of you the 90's - it is no surprise to see where the bar is set.

I was trying to think of a Border War in the 80's that was worth mentioning and I couldn't come up with anything (maybe because CSU wasn't very good). My favorite all time Wyoming game was at AFA in 1987.

That AFA game in 1987 was outstanding, maybe one of the best ever UW games. Both the 87 & 88 border wars were a blast - see my previous post.

 here we go.....
I think the bar should be raised. I have huge hopes and expectations but when ever I say that, all you old timers say "beaverpoke you need to be more realistic and know we suck"

Let me put my walker down a second.

Ok.

Can you imagine rooting for the same team for 5+ decades, and only seeing three 10+ win seasons? Let alone, since 2000 watching your favorite team go 57-88? Makes some folks edgy.

I hang on to 1987 and 1988, and a handful of wins (Ole Miss, Tennessee, Virginia, UCLA) to keep from ending up living in a refrigerator box on 16th street.
