Favorite Border War Moment

I loved the late 80's games when we were so good. I remember my parents got to go to the Holiday bowl with the team and Coach Roach as his guest. My dad brought back a straw cowboy hat with pistol Pete on it. I was only 10 back then.

Another story I love, but is before my time, is when UW students? kidnapped the CSU mascot and shaved and painted it - the paint ended up killing the ram. It wasn't on purpose, and I don't recommend it be repeated, but I will admit if it had to happen to someone I'm glad it was CSU.

I also enjoyed painting the rock back in college. I've shared it before, but my favorite time from that was one year the night before a game we decided at the last minute to go paint the rock. We got there at about 2 am or so, and it had been freshly painted with a "Go RAMS" on one side - the paint wasn't even all the way dry. we changed it to a brown Go Pokes.

You can still see green on the edges of the GO

And this was the other side of the rock

I have a great memory of the 98 game in Fort Collins. In college I made some money on the side judging high school debate tournaments and I was in Boulder judging at CU's tournament. I got done with my commitment that evening and the buddies I drove down with and I decided to swing through the Fort to see if we could get into the game. We listened to the first half on the radio as we drove and got to Hughes at halftime. We managed to talk our way into the game courtesy of a gate agent who did not give any fucks, and we crammed into the Wyoming section for the second half. You know the rest of the story - I remember a lot of Wyoming students doing their best to nail Cam the Ram with snowballs throughout the half. Great, great memories of that one.

Here's another vote for the 98 fog bowl. With the fog and the all white Cowboy uniforms, we looked like the ghosts of football past when we took the field that day. Beating CSU in Fort Collins in front of all those Rams fans was great. In addition, it was great to watch CarbonPoke throw a perfect snow ball at the CSU ROTC detachment doing some kind of drill at halftime.

The 1996 game was awesome as well.

In 1986, (we lost 20-15 under Dennis Ericson) a group of us headed down to F.C. for the game and sat in what was then a grassy knoll behind the end zone. CSU band would do push-ups right in front of us when they scored so we decided to run onto the field and do the same when we scored (authorities didn't take too kindly to that...). Later, CSU and Wyoming students started throwing chunks of turf at each other and about half the knoll was bald after the game. A drunken fan fell off from the concrete edge of the knoll onto the field so the game was delayed so an ambulance could come in and take him away. Anybody here remember that game?
