Faster Tempo? Mono... Lack of a shooter

Some of you are wanting a faster tempo........... :thumbdown: well the very very very last thing this team needs to do is speed up the tempo. This team is about defense, and making the opponent run around and use their energy defending for a full shot clock. THAT is how we were winning and that is the only way this team can win. We CANNOT run with anyone. We start turning the ball over way too much in a faster tempo. In the first SDSU game, we hung with them for awhile until they were able to speed up the tempo on us. In no time during the uptempo they got up by 10 on us...we never recovered. Coach Shyatt and Nance were exactly right in the post game UNLV interviews about how we were more worried about scoring instead of defense. We simply can not win like that.
No matter what anyone says..... Mononucleosis is THE main reason for the recent struggles..... It took us a couple of games to adjust not having Nance....... and now it is taking us a couple of games to adjust to having Nance back.

Hopefully it is not too late to get Nance fully back and the teams chemistry back. I don't think it is. I don't see any team in this league that we can't beat. We must get back to playing with the same strategy as we did earlier in the season. That style makes it very hard for the opponent to get into any offensive rhythm. However, I do wish we had an outside scorer like a Luke Martinez. McManamen and others need to come in for Hankerson a little more.

I suspect this team is going to go all out fighting for a MW Tourney Championship, and it starts with defense.

I agree that we need to slow the tempo down. That is how this team was built and wins.

As far as being able to get any mojo back , I don't have as much optimism about that. Hope they can show us something to get some confidence back. Just have to hope everyone is healthy by the middle of next week.

slow tempo is fine but if you break out and have numbers, you go for it. You most likely get fouled or a bucket.

I agree that speeding up the tempo is not really the way to go, but what I think needs to happen is that over the course of running the offense, something has to be going on that gets us a good shot. I feel like far too often the motion is just for the sake of motion and we become more obsessed with running the shot clock down than scoring. I'm not really asking for us to play faster, just more efficiently and with more purpose, remembering that the point of the offense is to get a good look.

As far as mono goes, it sucked but I felt that it only really caused us to lose 1 game that I though we should've won in the first place.

We do need a shooter who can more reliably hit a 3 pointer and/or a second reliable big man so that teams can't just bear down on Nance. I also don't see much point to having Nance or Cooke hold the ball much on the perimeter and wish they would post up a bit more when we are shooting poorly from 3.

Hell, I'm so confused with whatever is going on fast/slow tempo, and I'm sure it has the players somewhat confused as well, but let's just hope our 5 seniors have their biggest games of their careers tomorrow and take that Mo into the MWC tourney, that's sure would be nice, Riley you are a weapon from the line, get there more and often Wed!!!
