If there was any way of reconstructing the student section so that the floor section isn't separated from the sections above the floor, I would do it. As it is, the students standing in the small bleachers on the floor are coordinated and into it; students in those sections above the floor, not so much. Think a continuous student section would make a big difference in the level of student game enthusiasm, participation, and coordinated participation.
That was definitely true part of the season. Towards the middle half of the season, the entire student section came alive. For CSU, every student seat was packed and the upper level was standing for much of the game. Our student section improved by leaps and bounds this year. We'll see if they can keep that momentum next year. I like the arrangement. It's unique. The floor seats give the diehards a reward for showing up early.
The main thing they need to change is the lower bowls empty seats for the less attended games. They should come up with a process to let people move down and fill in seats if they're still empty midway through the first half. Let the season ticket holders know that they're going to do it in case they do show up late: so they aren't surprised and they're prepared to kindly ask the people to find another seat.
The rest of the gameday experience is pretty damn good. They put on a first class show. The tickets are still cheap. The lighting is great. The seats are comfortable. The sound system kicks ass. Fire shoots from the backboards when players are introduced. The other things they need to improve: concessions, restrooms, and concourse will all be fixed in the next round of renovations.
They do need to address the lower bowl seating for the less attended games. The atmosphere sucks when the lower bowl is half empty. It looks pathetic on t.v. Allowing fans to move down would be a good way for the athletics department to give a little back to the fans.
