The reason that I started this thread was to find out what some of our fans thought and how our expectations as a fan base are. After Saturday's win in Idaho, on this board, twitter, and GWG, there were some comments I didn't understand. Some that I saw were..."great win Pokes!", "that took a lot of heart to pull out!", "super job 'boys!!", and even a "this could be a season changer!"
Really??? Seriously???? It was I-D-A-FREAKIN-H-O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GAWD!!!!!
Some of the posts above were close to how I feel, but some of them... wow! At least .500 every year? 3-4 wins on down years? Don't lose to FCS teams? (that shouldn't even be a thought let alone an expectation!)
If we expect to be mediocre.... that is the MOST WE WILL EVER BE! If we are happy and satisfied with being .500, then I guess I have been following the wrong team for the last 47 yrs! GAWD I HATE BEING MEDIOCRE!!
Back in 1988, Coach Roach was quoted as saying that he would be disappointed if the pokes didn't go undefeated. Those were his expectations. We went 11-1 during the regular season and lost the Holiday Bowl to Oklahoma St. A couple weeks after the bowl game, Coach was asked if the season was a success. He said "it was ok.... but not what I wanted." That is the exact mindset we need in Laramie!! That is something this university hasn't had for a very long time. If DC went 11-2, he would expect to be voted in as Governor!
I have a question.... is this team loaded with the talent to be a top 25 team, up and down the line-up? Could a bunch of our kids be starting or playing alot at Nebraska, Miss St, Clemson, or Baylor... to name a few?? If you say yes.... then I would ask.. why did we lose to Toledo at home, Cal Poly at home, and barely beat Idaho on the road? Wouldn't make sense because those teams are top 25 type teams. If you say no..... my question would then be, why not??? WHY THE F*** NOT??????? If you tell me, "it's hard to recruit to Laramie" (spoken with a dumbass tone), to that I say "horse***t"!!!! Just another excuse! We need a guy that can sell.... that can sell water to a drowning man! What would really be scary is if that guy really believed in what he was selling. It's not that hard to recruit to Wyoming.... it's not. Just have to know how to sell it!
I think it is time to change the mindset of everyone involved in Wyoming Cowboy Football! That goes for coaches, staff, administration, and fans around the state. Mediocrity will ABSOLUTELY NOT be excepted!! Being excited about beating a 0-3 Idaho team just doesn't cut it.... let alone losing to a FCS team.... good gawd!! If you think that I am being unrealistic.... then you continue to be average... to be mediocre... to keep losing. How pathetic!! Things have to change in Laramie.... not later but NOW!!!! Unexceptable!!!
