At Nevada we were missing key players and breaking in new ones.
CBs Keyonte Glinton, and true freshman Cam Stone both saw action vs Nevada and are getting valuable experience. Safties Cam Murray and Miles Williams both saw action, too. I'm expecting a better performance from the secondary. Hopefully we're done with the 'give the WR a 15 yard cushion'. Missing Webber hurts.
LBs need to improve. Charles Hicks, Shae Suianoa and Easton Gibbs need to step up and play well. These three lack experience, but have the bodies/ability. Gibbs proved he can hit hard and make solo tackles at Nevada. He should be a good one. Note: Muma had some punishing hits at Nevada. He can lay the wood with the likes of Logan and Cassh last year few years.
DL got put in a terrible spot when most of the DL decided to sit out and stay home. Looks like a few kids have stepped up to help Victor Jones, Cole Godbout and Ravontae Holt (who all played great).
Cam Smith, DE, got a sack at Nevada, which is huge, he's a true freshman and beat the T one on one to get a sack. Players that can generate pressure on the QB one on one are priceless. He's proven he can do that. He also made a very violent tackle on their QB, who is a very tall, big man. Again, only a true freshman. If Byrd ever comes back (I'll believe it when I see it), he and Smith should be formidable going forward.
Jaylen Pate, R-Fr, got the start at DE, he's now got a game under his and needs to show something going forward. Also, Bertangole, a R-Fr from Casper, got quite a few plays an an interior lineman at Nevada. He even got like .333 of a sack. He's pretty damn big and seemed to hold his own out there. Not a bad surprise to get a walkon interior lineman from Wyoming that can play.
I expect a better performance vs Hawaii from the D.
