Didn't renew my season tickets this year; started going to Cowboy BB games quite regularly in the mid 70s' in the fieldhouse and purchased my first season ticket in either 1978 or 1979 and have renewed each year through last season. So I got to see plenty of good Cowboy players and a few good coaches (Brandy, Shyatt, and Mac) and until HS thought that Joby was the poorest Cowboy men's BB coach I had experienced. I have had enough and will not be going to any Cowboy BB games this year and will try not to listen to the radio broadcasts (so far so good but know it is a long way until March). I will watch the Mtn. to see some MWC conference teams play (caught most of both the New Mexico and San Diego State games last night) so may end up seeing the Pokes on TV but it won't be because I want to watch the Pokes.
Have to admit that I was disappointed when Burman fired Mac and brought his buddy in to replace him. Quite frankly I felt that we were probably looking at an 18 to 20 game winning season and if Mac could find a half way good post man maybe a 20 to 22 game winning season. Didn't make much sense to me to hire a head coach who had an overall losing record and felt that HS left Portland State realizing that losing four starting seniors would make his next season more difficult.
I gave up listening to the HS Coach's Show a couple years ago. Was sick and tired of hearing how bad a program he had inherited at UW. Don't recall having heard any other coach at UW bad mouth a previous coach and certainly not as often as Heath did/does. Also tired of hearing how Heath turned the supposed academic problems that Mac supposedly created around when the academic improvement was due to the AD hiring two full-time tutors and an academic counselor for the men's BB team. I would be willing to bet that those three hires had far, far more to do with any academic improvement on the men's BB team than did HS.
After reading where Portland State is facing suspension from post season play because of academic problems from 2005 through 2009, I am wondering if maybe Heath's and Tom's departures were not based on their knowing that possible problems might be coming up sometime in the future.
Not an easy decision to give up my season ticket but the excitement just isn't there anymore. Used to be that when the out of conference schedule came out I had a few games I was really looking forward to seeing UW play. Past few years that anticipation has fallen off -- heck this year I was wondering what no name colleges or cooking schools the AD and HS would find that would be a cake walk for UW and help pad HS's stats. With schedules like they have put together the past few years any of the coaches prior to HS could have added two or three more wins to their schedules each year.
In regards to the comments on other posts regarding firing TB and/or HS I certainly am not opposed to such a move. IMHO the two of them have brought UW's men's BB program to its lowest level since I started going to games in the mid 70s.
