First off I am not surprised one bit at what happened yesterday . I am not sure what some of our fans were expecting . With as many freshman as we have playing it is going to take sometime to get things exactly where DC needs them . Lets looks at the situation yesterday though .
I knew that Wyoming was most likely was going to come out flat . Why ? Because they had just got hyped up as much as you can be for a football game the week before against the # 2 ranked team in the country with a sell out crowd. It is hard for any team to get hyped up 2 weeks in a row at any level , especially one that has lost as much in the past as these Cowboys have and also with as many freshman and younger guys playing that Wyoming has . The second reason I had a feeling something like this might happen is that you had the other team in the Colorado Buffaloes that basically had their backs against the wall and needed a win badly , not saying Wyoming didn't but Colorado is playing for their coaches job to a certain extent at this point and they were at home .
So when you add both of those ingredients together #1 . Team A being flat and # 2 .Team B having their backs against the wall, then you have a situation that turned out like it did yesterday .
Do not be surprised to see Wyoming play the best game they have all season come Saturday against UNLV and do not be surprised if we start the conference season 1-0 .
It will take DC another year or two of recruiting to get all of the athletes he needs to win games where even when your flat you can still come out and get it done but we are not quite there yet . We are not as bad as some are making it out to be and we will improve throughout the year but everyone needs to understand growing pains will happen so no need to get all flustered . Everyone relax .
I'll bet you see a lot better looking Cowboy team this next Saturday . Just my two cents on it .
Go Pokes!

Excellent post, Seattlecowboy

For me, I was just pissed we lost to CU because we had a golden opportunity to beat them after we screwed up the 1997 game in which we snatched a loss from the jaws of victory.

Otherwise, I would've been O.K. with a growing pains type game considering we have so many freshmen on the team playing right now.

I can't read such nonsense without a reply. First, the players and the alumni want Hawkins out. There have been numerous articles about how much it will cost to buy out his contract. He is as good as gone at the end of this season. Second, do you really think beating Wyoming will save his job? He has to win games in the conference and that looks problematic at best. The players hate Hawkins for not starting Hanson at qb. No decent qb has committed to CU because "Lt. Dan", as he's know around Boulder, plays Cody - who is not really a D1 qb.

So to write that CU basically played their butts off for Hawkins is way off base. By the way, how should that matter? CU is a 2-10 or 3-9 team this year. Just because "they really need the game" doesn't justify our pathetic performance.

Nonsense ? lol funny . First off I never said anywhere that beating Wyoming would save Hawkins job so maybe you should learn to read first . I said Colorado was playing with their backs against the wall . Second of all you obviously have never played sports before if you think trying to get hyped up for a game the week after playing one of the biggest games of the season isn't tough.
If Wyoming had good enough talent they could have come out and played flat and still won but we do not have that kind of talent yet . Wyoming will play better this week . I can tell you the "situational" aspect for Wyoming against Colorado did not set up well last week for Wyoming. You can call it non sense all you want but its a fact . If Wyoming had not played Texas the week before they would have played a lot better football game and not been so flat on Saturday .
I would say the bigger reason Wyoming lost is because of the fact they were flat from playing Texas more so than because "Colorado played their butts off " as your putting it .
Also I already know about the grumblings of the fans and alumni wanting Hawkins out but big deal. The players don't want to lose . So I guess your suggesting just because the alumni want him out they are just going to not compete ? I guess you have inside info that the rest of us do not have into Colorado's athletic department . I read everything in the papers and media outlets that you do .

Still the main reason Wyoming lost is because they were FLAT from the Texas game .

I knew, I knew, I knew! lol Those are 'facts', 'facts', 'facts'! lol Ah, I love Monday mornings! lol The Cowboys stunk and that game was hard to watch, in my humble opinion.

We all get carried away, in different ways, when talking about our Cowboys, Seattle, but at least our hearts are in the right place. Go Pokes!

By the way bladerunnr i'm not trying to get into an argument with you as we are both Cowboy fans and want the best for the team which is wins. I just am not sure how you can call what I said non-sense when lots of times teams come out flat in a week after they have played a very big game .
I just do not think Wyoming is quite as bad yet as everyone is making them out to be and I do not think Colorado is quite as bad as everyone thinks either but i will not be surprised to see them go 3-9 on the year because of the tough schedule they have . I do think Wyoming's offense needs to improve but I think a lot of Saturdays games was because they were flat .
If Wyoming comes out again with no emotion and lays an egg at home against UNLV then I will agree that there is a greater problem then I initially thought but I still believe Wyoming will look a lot better this week , does that mean we will beat UNLV ? Not sure, as I think UNLV has improved quite a bit but I do feel good about Wyoming's chances at home . Anyways your welcome to your opinion . Peace man! lol

I question the notion that we were "flat". Yes, they scored quite easily on their first drive. However, after that, we gave it back to our offense on the cu 18 yard line and then missed a field goal. We tried a fake punt from our own end of the field and put the defense in a terrible spot. I thought the defense played pretty well for being on the field for nearly the entire first half on a very hot day.

So you're saying the offense would have performed better had we not played Texas last week? Interesting. Our defense (much like last year) is put in terrible situations with very little rest time after time. Except saturday, when it was about 80 degrees out there, if not warmer.

My impression is this: the defense needs the offense to do something or this will continue. It's too demoralizing to have to come back out onto the field after yet another 3 and out.

Seattle Poke. I hope I'm wrong. The season has just begun. I'll reserve judgement until after its all said and done. It just seems funny that a guy like Joe Tiller can produce instant offense whether its here or Purdue and yet we struggle to get first downs for what seems like about 3 or 4 years now.

btw, I'll chill out! I'm afraid I was always a bit of a sore loser. Let's get a win this saturday and hopefully see some offense.

I believe the offense and the defense for that matter would have played with more intensity and emotion which would have translated into better focus and we would have played a lot better game overall if we were not flat .
I agree the offense needs to picks it up and not leave the defense on the field or it will continue to happen like it did on Saturday . I think we will come out with more intensity and emotion Saturday against UNLV and we will have a better game . Just my opinion.
