Embarrassment on ESPN

No one is bagging on the fans who attended the game, we are bagging on the people around the area who stayed home.

+1

How do you guys think I am bagging on the fans who made the game when I am pointing out how empty the stadium is?
What, do you think I expected you to perform meiosis and turn into more fans so you can fill the stadium?

And, again, you guys want to start the whole "you didn't go so you can't complain" bullshit?

If one of you wants to pay for my plane ticket from Portland to Denver and back every weekend, pay for my gas from Corvallis to Portland, and Denver to Laramie, I would gladly go to the games. Until then, don't be bitching about me not making Wyoming games. I live 1200 miles away. I've gone to more Wyoming games in the last half decade than I can even count now, don't give me shit about not supporting the team or saying I am bagging on the fans who actually went.

Thanks ESPN2 for coming to Laramie and showing our program getting shit on.
The attendance is a joke, the on-field product is a joke, everything about the program looks like a joke right now.
Plenty of game left but so please prove me wrong but right now I am completely embarrassed.

"everything"? I see quite a few good things to go with the bad. Then again, I only really follow the Pokes, while your frustration is doubled by following the train wreck that is the Oregon State football program. Every year, less wins than the year before, and that's with their recent strategy of scheduling their OOC games against FCS and MWC teams. Maybe your fandom fortunes will improve if you go to graduate school at Alabama or Auburn.

regular post: the attendance is pretty weak tonight

Beaver post: this is pathetic and an embarrassment to Wyoming. You people make me sick for not going to the game

Love internet tough guys. Grow up, he wasn't starting a fight.

Don't defend him. Dude starts a new thread all the time when he could have made the same exact comment in the game thread, but he's such an attention whore it makes me sick. He rarely makes comments that aren't completely polarized. He wasn't starting a fight? Trust me, every post has an intent with that guy.

My frustration with wyo football has nothing to do with oregon state football.
My frustration is that once the weather gets a little cold 50% of the fans quit showing up.
And year after year it is like that. And there are only excuses.
Long drive to Laramie. Cold out. Game is on espn. Friday night. Hunting season.
It's pathetic. We have a game on national tv and had a stadium that was just empty.
Meanwhile CSU is working on multiple sellouts in a row.
That's what frustrates me about Wyoming football, not Oregon State football. Nice reach/troll effort though.

You're a fucking winner.

But no, I am not at the game, and no I won't shut my fucking mouth. :thumb:

Plus, it's not like I just spent the last 4-5 seasons going to home and road games watching Wyoming.
First season that I can't go to home games and you are the one who decides I can't comment on the lack of people in the stands? :orly:

And people say that when someone starts an argument against me that I look like the jr higher...? Right, right.

You are on a roll lol.

Definitely was not trying to start a fight with my thread. Wasn't looking for attention. Was trying to start a conversation about how Wyo(athletic department and fans) yet again laid an egg on national tv.

But if you felt so upset by my post then by all means go ahead and get your panties in a bunch. It's hillarious and you do look like an internet tough guy. Especially when you tell other people not to defend me. Lol.

I'm not sure what y'all are fighting about...is it how the poster phrased the undeniable point that attendance was terrible?

Probably. I made that post in the first quarter when USU was thumping us and on kickoffs they showed the stands and it looked completely empty. I was frustrated as hell with how we were playing and how few fans showed up.

Then someone decided to tell me to shut my (fucking) mouth. And we know that's not gonna happen ;)

Beaver has a way of saying things that get under people's skin. I'm sure he'll be doing it real soon.

Beav, it's called "a job". Most people weren't at the game because we have jobs and these jobs usually take up most of a day. So, unless you wanted to take vacation or lived in Laramie, you're not making a 6pm Friday game.

For a friday night game, I get it. What about the countless other gamea where we came in under 25k?

It's called hunting and recreation. When people get time away from their jobs they tend to want t spend their weekends in the mountains listening to Dave and Kevin.

Embarrassment?

I didn't see the game, but, judging by the comments here, I expected the game to be something like 56-0.

Then I saw the highlights. It was basically two big plays that we gave up...the 66 yard run and the punt return, both by Natson. Take those away and the final score is 6-3. Hardly an embarrassment.

So Wyoming must be the only school in the country that has fans/students that go hunting, camping, have jobs, and have families.

This is my point Kansas, we have the same excuses every time. The only time we sellout is when Texas or Nebraska come to town.

Even in our good years we don't have people show up. It's frustrating. All I want is Wyo to pack the War, average 28K and have 25K be our LOW of the attendance, not our high.

In the first quarter (when I made this) Wyo was getting embarrassed. And there were no people in the stands.
The on-field play was corrected, but the fan issue just got worse after halftime.

Well, I'll chime in wear angels fear to tread.

It's not about jobs or Friday night. In fact, everywhere else Friday night games on ESPN are a plus, not a minus.

I'd guess that the biggest problem is that we have a losing program and have had for a long time as these things go. If the worst a program does year in and year out is 7-5, with it only going up from there, then the whole culture of attendance changes.

But the other issue I think about is more controversial. It seems to be a mixture of population, geography and culture. We have a minuscule population and it's spread out...well, you know how it's spread out. But laid on top of that is the fact that we're not a rabid football state. We're a take or leave football state.

The last issue is demographics. Wyoming has about the lowest percentage of people who live here who were also born here. It's a state largely of people born elsewhere, who just don't have that close connection to the state university athletics that exists in other states.

Beave, other programs have a bigger fan base and have cities in which the university is either in or around. Yes, other programs have fan bases that do the same thing. But WYO is different. The entire state is sparse.
You have long drives to Laramie everyother week. Hunting, most people work oil field, mining, or some sort of energy, where the job works around the clock. Which means probably the 4,000 fans that we needed to pack the War against Montana were probably at work, wanting to be at the game. When you get into October, I'll gauruntee at least 2-3,000 fans are hunting, hence our numbers drop to about 21,000 or below.
And then you have fans like me, who live 800-1000 miles away and may be able to make one trip a year.
Other school don't have similar problems.

Wasn't it not the greatest weather last night, as well? I know the temperatures were up, but people don't want to sit out in the rain when they can watch the game at home on ESPN2.
