Edwards era is here.

Perhaps he's only trying to motivate everybody to replace those ugly blue banners with some shiny new gold ones

it's probably only for Motivation, but I'm not a UK fan at all, don't really like it, but if it motivates so be it

It definitely motivates. It also helps big time when recruits walk into the office. To be fair Papa Shy had the Florida NC banners in the office from his days as an assistant. The pokes have some history too though. Our NC banner may be from a much different era but only around 33 or 34 teams can even claim they have one. I think only 4 or 5 of those championships were won by teams not from power 5 only 2 in the MWC.

totally, i'm actually surprised that it's hung below the mw banner

Just hear me out for a second....

What would your response be if Lakers fans got upset at Larry Nance for having Wyoming MWC Championship gear in his locker instead of Lakers gear?

It's part of Edwards' past that he's proud of...and should be. Unless you want UW grads to disown their past when they move on to the NBA, you shouldn't have a problem with Edwards hanging his UK banners.

I agree that he should be allowed to have them up in his office, it's part of what brought him here, and it will resonate with recruits. However, comparing it to Larry Nance and the Lakers is apples to oranges, the Cowboys are never going to play the Lakers, so having UW gear in his locker is irrelevant. However, Wyoming and Kentucky could certainly play each other.

College gear in an NBA locker is not a very good comparison. I get your point, but Phil Jackson having his Lakers and Bulls stuff in his office or Mike Shanahan doing the same when he was with the Redskins would be a better comparison. It's a dumb thing to get upset about since it's about the same as a professor hanging his or her accomplishments from a previous university in his or her office in Laramie.

Fair point. Hadn't thought about it that way.

If he gets Parker Stewart in addition to Hunter Thompson, Hunter Maldonado, Louis Adams, and Buddha Jones to start his tenure, he can hang BYU banners in the office for all I care.

The staff if off to a hot start with recruiting, and little touches like that do make a difference. They legitimize a new head coach in the eyes of recruits.

It is kind of painful to look at, but if Kentucky offers him the head coaching job, he's gone anyways. Luckily, Kentucky has a very high standard for their coaching candidates. He'll have to get some stripes on his sleeve before they come back for Edwards.

Whoa whoa whoa...let's not get crazy now...we have to draw a line somewhere, and that sir, is the line.

Can't agree with the BYU thing, that's just wrong, but the rest I agree with. If Kentucky is ever interested in Allen Edwards when he is head coach at Wyoming then things have gone better than any of us could ever dream.

Yeah, I should have put an emoticon next to that comment so people didn't think I was serious. :D

I think we should be able to fight off most suitors for Edwards until Kentucky comes calling. He'll have to earn some stripes before the big schools are after him anyways. If it ever gets to that point, I hope we'll continue to promote from within the staff. Maybe Jeremy Shyatt will be ready by then.

How about if he had said "I'm a Ram through and through" at his interview as a finalist?
