McDaniel is a pompous, self important, know it all. But on this he is correct. But for McDaniel to say anything nice about a conservative or Republican simply must make him ill. Rita is one of the best folks I've ever known. Sturnburg and the BOT should all go, Sturnburg for the torched earth policy he instituted and the BOT for complete dishonesty. He did not simply resign.

So let's see....the socialist McDaniel comes out in support of the decision as the oppressor of the little guy has been ousted....when will the ambush by Osama Bin Easton be addressed......isn't he still drawing a paycheck? Why would we want to improve from a Tier 3 status and look at opportunities as to how best to support that industries that pay the bills and salaries of state employees? Change is difficult and perhaps he was speeding when a jog or brisk walk would have been better......instead the complacent deadweight that has driven the university from a top5 institution (according to Forbes) to middle of the pack......a place we have become quite accustomed to and are unwilling to try and improve. The unfounded and to my knowledge the unreported accusations of a hostile workplace was definitely something that should have been looked into but prior to his dismissal....you can call it a resignation if you choose.....People want accountability until it hits home and then the finger pointing begins.......the back slapping will continue over how we averted a crises and were able to remain firmly entrenched in the 20th century!

That's right. Poor Sternberg. Such a progressive man. Love to feel the man who represents our university can be so class in introducing of Rita's stature as a distinguished alumni, and then for Sternberg to blame his speechwriter because he didn't know what twerking meant. Glad to see you have an ability to endorse that type of behavior. You should have been the head of the BOT, who witnessed the event without any reaction.

I don't really think it should make you ill. He might be at a different extreme politically than you are or Rita is, but Rodger still has an ability to know that there is a level of respect people earn for what they do in life. It is just a tip of the iceberg, but shows the character of Stenberg.

Whatever helps you sleep at night! Symbolic resignation equates into more mediocrity.....professionalism at its finest!

How is it that DC still has a job after HowdyDoodygate if that is how we are basing personnel decisions.......that's right his performance has shown that he is good with the status quo whereas BS wanted to move UW forward

Tracy, I said it must make McDaniel ill, not me. But then again to have him say something nice like he did about Rita is so out of character for him that maybe it should make me ill. I wish Rita was a member of the BOT, that way we wouldn't have to be concerned about honesty, integrity, transparency and competence. At least with her anyway.

Such a progressive thinker you are, finding ways to justify the face of the University of Wyoming's actions in a public forum, where he is supposed to be honor distinguished alumni, standing at the prodium in front of a full house. And you talk about being progressive. Wow.

Yeah, wonder how many of the BOT members were sitting in that audience and never said a peep. I love instead of apologizing he blames his ``speechwriter,'' and claims for as intelligent as he is supposed to be he didn't know what the word meant.
It just shows his lack of regard and respect for people. I doubt that this was an isolated incident but those who want to defend him. ...
I've known Rodger since high school. He may have differing politcal views, but that does not keep him from having a respect for individuals for what they have accomplished and contributed to Wyoming.

Sorry but I wasn't there to witness the tweaking comments so not sure what transpired......did see the assault on BS by the guy who symbolically resigned and the DC rant on YouTube.......making UW look like a forward leaning institution.........like I said, whatever makes you sleep!

I like how we only focus on Sternberg's negatives. What about his positives? He wanted outside opinions on certain underperforming departments because he wanted them to be the best. He was the only president we've had in years that prioritized athletics and wanted us to compete for MWC football and basketball titles on a yearly basis. He wanted to increase the athletics budget by 4 million a year.

So yes, he had his short comings, and yes there were many people that wanted to get rid of him.

My question, what's the next guy going to be like? What are the chances that he will strive for accountability and excellence? What chance do we have of hiring a president that believes in athletics excellence?

Sternberg was a lot of things, but if you think we're going to find somebody that supports athletics as much as Robert, you're kidding yourself. We might have got rid of a socially awkward president that wasn't fully truthful about some firings. We also got rid of our best chance of presidential athletics support that we've had in years.

Wyoming people are very good at rejecting people that don't fit their idea of what a Wyoming person should be. They aren't very good at planning for the future or thinking two steps down the line, because we just ran off a president that wanted our athletics to excel and we aren't going to find anybody to replace him that will support athletics with the same passion.

For me, I would rather have a socially awkward, dishonest, president that requires excellence and drives our athletics teams to championships that an honest, socially gifted puppet(like Buchanon) that doesn't care if the football team ever wins again.

Spin this all you want, but the good ol' boys network at UW just ran off a guy that would have supported and pushed for athletics excellence because he used terms like twerking and said people resigned when he fired them.

You guys may think it's a win. I'll withhold judgement until I see the new puppet we hire that doesn't care if the football and basketball teams finish in the basement for the next 100 years.

Curious, just where did he say he wanted to increase the athletic budget by $4 million?
It is easy to say you want to do x y or z, but it's your actions that are the true test of commitment.
There are people who say what they think the crowd wants to hear.
And there are people who do the job that needs to be done.
Talk is cheap.
Action is what pays dividends.
I loved when he he sent a message to Mike Vorel telling him what a good job he did in writing the story about the independent study of the athletic department. Then when it came out that the study was actually put into motion in August and the visit to campus was two weeks before the CSU game he quickly said that his statements were misconstrued in the CST and he had been sent apologizes from the folks in Casper, and that it was the reporters fault for not asking him the proper questions.
Those are the type of mixed signals that make me skepitcal. Sort of like saying a dean resigned and denying that he had fired the person.
'

I asked him, "If Tom Burman thinks the price tag of the necessary athletics improvements is 3.5 million a year, how much we can expect to see." The answer I got, "We'll go above and beyond the amount we need to be competitive."

4 million seems like above and beyond to me, maybe he meant 3.51 million.

Still, that's really not the question to me. The question to me is who the new "Good Ol' Boys" puppet is going to be. If I know Wyoming and the Wyoming good ol boys I know this: whomever it is will try to accomplish mediocre results without having to spend any money to do it.

Well, let's just say there was no early indication of that in his actions.
But doesn't matter.
Deal is done.
The termination contract requires both party to not discuss what happened.

Let's just say this, do you really think the BOT would have made a move that it knew would be an embarrassment to its abilities to make a quality hire if it didn't have cause? I'd think their preference would have been to try and claim things were getting better and it was premature.

Wonder why, if he was so gung ho, he wouldn't let coaches use university plane to recruit.
In my dealings with him, I found him wiling to say whatever he felt would please the person he talked to, but unfortunately the next day he might say the opposite.

Well, I don't think he hired a consulting firm to create an outside report, just to disregard the recommendations. He came from OSU and knows the importance of athletics to the whole university. Dean Easton thought he was going to follow the consultants report or he wouldn't have quit, thrown a tantrum, and went on the attack like he did.

We can argue about it all day, but I guarantee the next president will be everything Robert Sternberg wasn't. He will be Tom Buchanan part 2. He will be everybody's friend. He won't ask anybody to spend more money to appease the Wyoming Cheap crowd. He'll do whatever the donors and trustees tell him to do.

Wow...believe me, I'm no Sternberg fan, but for someone to set him up like that with the speech is pretty ugly stuff. Heck, call me naïve, but I had no idea what twerking meant. Sounds like the head of the BOT didn't either. Lots of ugliness all the way around.

Sounds like the guy had the temerity to pretend he was part of the Wyoming crowd and make a joke about one of them.

But they knew he was an outsider. Lots of them already didn't like him for that reason. So they became shocked...SHOCKED...that ANYONE could say ANYTHING like that.

So we are to believe that a month after disparaging comments were made about a distinguished alum is when the trigger was pulled......had nothing to do with the academia circling the wagons in fear of being held accountable and actually improving academic programs throughout the university rather than allowing the continual backslide?
