Does this putrid beatdown bother anyone?

It really doesn't bother me and here is why. Look at the talent we have in our senior and junior classes. Very little. Thank you Joe Glenn. 67 scholarships, thank you Joe Glenn. One full year of recruiting, getting a system in place with players that can play in that system will take time, a lot of time. Take a look at what Mike Stoops did in Arizona. 2004 3-8, 2005 3-8, 2006 6-6, 2007 5-7, 2008 8-5, 2009 8-5, 2010 a team with a top 10 ranking. Stanford's Jim Harbaugh record in 2007 4-8, 2008 5-7, 2009 8-5, 2010, they are really good. DC has been here a year and a half, and what has he done? Well lets see, went to a bowl game and won, beat every team that we should beat and lost to every team that we should have, yea the BEATDOWNS suck, but I have complete faith in this coach that he will bring a winning program to Laramie. No doubt about it. It will happen, two more years GO POKES.

Well said partner. :thumb:

One other side note, Wyoming will have at least the full allotment of scholarships available (25) for the next two years which will be HUGE. :twocents:

Yep. Just hope they actually stay. What hurt us for this season was losing those 2 O-linemen.

Really, the only thing stopping this from being another 60+ to zero game is that Coach Whittingham and your coach are friends.

The 67 scholarships are not the fault of Joe Glenn. When Glenn left we were using around 80 of our alloted scholarships. The attrition under the current staff has been way beyond the normal range.

Maybe they couldn't handle the strict conditioning and discipline required by DC. This is what I suspect.

Attrition happens with every program that goes through a coaching change, this was no different, but we did lose a crazy amount of players.

Alot of the players who left would never have seen much playing time and several left because they were injured their entire playing careers. Ya part of it is Joe Glenn's fault because he recruited shitty players. What players are we missing this year that were scholarship players? Here what I remeber off the top of my head:

Alex Stover (injured)
Marcus Felker ( Noseguard type never played much even when we had a 3-4)
Joe Evers ( graduated early never saw much on the field)
Adam Berry ( were is he now, always thought he had potential but wrong offense)
Jim Downs( couldn't play juco why was he recruited)
Corey Orrth (was pretty good don't know why he left)
James Davis (1st playing time was this year got beat out by two younger rb's)
Brian Kuhtz (never would have played)
Stutz ( was decent)
Darius Terry (averaged two yards a carry for career, not that good)

Most of these players ( all joe glenn's recruits I am pretty sure) left because they got beat out by younger more talented players or left the 1st month of DC coming in. I think it is normal for players to leave right when a new coach takes over, the others left because they just are not D1 caliber and would never play. One exception is Brandon stewart who would have seen playing time this year, probably playing the same position as robert herron leaving him to redshirt.

What DC recruits have left?
Nick Puetz
Scott Criss
Tom Vonashek
Tumour Battle

I think the 3 olineman hurt the most especially puetz because Kirven and Hutchins aren't getting it done at left tackle. I think both would be good guards though.

A few other DC recruits that have left:

Larry Mitchell
Robert Benjamin
Trendt (Tonka) Marsom

Had a few recruits that didn't qualify, but it didn't hurt the numbers because we replaced them with other recruits late (Aiken and Herron for example).

Most of the attrition has definitely been players recruited by the previous staff. We have also seen a pretty high number of DC recruits contribute quickly which I think bodes well. Shamiel Gary, ACS, Ian Watts, Alvester Alexander, McNeil, etc. have all been strong contributors very quickly in their career.

I am sure that played a role. You also have changes in philosophy and players that don't like where they are on the depth chart. The latter part happens with every program. Nature of the beast. The numbers under DC have just been fairly extreme, but I am somewhat at a loss to explain it as I am not close enough to the program to understand.

I just don't like the tendency to blame the previous administration for everything. It's just like on the Basketball side, where it was all McClain's fault. It's not that simple.

Joe Glenns 2008 recuiting freshman class:
1. Ryan Handford
2. Levi Salmans
3. Adam Barry
4. Matt Birkeness
5. James Caraway
6. Chance Crawford
7. Jim Downs
8. Ben Durbin
9. Tashaun Gibson
10. David James
11. Dylan Kildahl
12 Klye Magnuson
13 Austin McCoy
14 Justin morgan
15 Corey Orth
16 Brandon Ribble
17 Trevor Shaw
18. Nick Williams
19. Eric Benson And where are they now? That my friend is leaving the cupboard bare.

Only six would be seniors or redshirt juniors left and only two are starters (McCoy and Tashaun) that class was a bust.

I also want to point out that before this year ( Glenn for his last several years & DC in 2009) recruited very little defensive lineman. Glenn obviously didn't fill the need to recruit since he had fletcher, Givens, and Unrein ( Unrein was originally a walkon). After the 05 class (from what I can tell) there were only six dl given scholarships till 2009. 2010 we recruited six DL the same as the last four classes. Add in Unrein and Mertens and it is 8 who eventually got scholarships.

( This info depends on how accurate rivals is on player info).

You've just inspired a new idea for a page on this site.. we need to start gathering up lists of recruits so we can keep track of them. F this researching thing all the time! :)

btw,

I owe hellbass a beer or something. When he posted ACS didn't travel, I jumped on bodog and bet TCU before they took it off the board. :thumb:

I didn't find out til right before the kickoff, or I'd have cashed in as well. I knew we wouldn't score.

What's been killing me is how our defensive backs keep getting burned. Guys are WIDE open, and have been all season. I assumed our experienced DBs would be a strong point with our D this year. Not lookin that way.

Doesn't really help when they are kept in zone most of the time and that the D-line gets very little to no pressure on the QB.
