And maybe Hammershmidt (former CSU OC) as WR coach...although WTF is that about...a fromer lambkin on our staff.

AS HC its Christensen's job to find people that fit his system and philosophy. Obviously if picks the wrong guys its his own ass on the line. Impressive names or not I find it hard to be critical of the staff before they have even been fully assembled. Everyone seems fairly happy with the hire of DC, I say we trust his judgement about who he brings along. I'm pretty sure the results will speak for themselves (good or bad) soon enough.

Northern Iowa coach is interesting.. I saw his team get pushed around last weekend vs. Richmond. I'll reserve judgment until next season.
HCDC is building a staff that is a lot like the staff he started on with Pinkel. High energy and youthful. The best thing about his staff so far is that they are all great communicators and recruiters. The recruiting part is especially good considering he is really spread out on where they are coming from and where they have traditionally recruited. Bringing in the Hawaii pipeline will really pay off in the next couple of years.

I was of the understanding that DC was going to pay both the offensive and defensive coordinators a good chunk of change and pay the position coaches a MUCH smaller salary. I was very impressed by this philosophy. Thus, I wasn't to surprised by all the hiring of young "up and comers" for position coaches. I too thought they would bring lots of energy to the program and was excited about the fact that they came from all over the country and could maybe open up some new recrutiing lines for us. However, I was expecting some more experienced coaches to be named offensive and defensive coordinators. Marty English has done a good job while at UW and we needed him to stay on in some compacity to keep our recruiting in Colorado intact. He probably deserved a shot at defensive coordinator, so I can somewhat understand that hiring. I'm a bit surprised about Arroyo being named offensive coordinator. He's a really young guy and hasn't proven himself at the upper level of DI football. However, we all know what DC's job was at Mizzou before coming here and I'm getting the impression that Arroyo will be offensive coordinator in name only. I think DC will impliment his own exact offensive scheme and Arroyo is just going to have learn it. I know San Jose State ran a similar offense under Arroyo, but there are small differences between what he ran and what DC ran at Mizzou. I wouldn't be surprised if DC outlines an offensive gameplan and gives Arroyo a good idea of the plays he wants to see for each opponent. I fully expect him to be wearing a headset and to have no probelm overriding a play call by Arroyo. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if DC is the play caller for the first few games. I'm not saying this is a bad approach and we are doomed to fail because of the coaches hired, but we are taking a lot of chances by hiring such young guys. Maybe someday there will be talk of the "Christensen coaching tree" and all of the assistants that became head coaches because of all of his success. That would bode well for us in the near future, but what do I know?
