Direction of the program under Larry Shyatt

Do I think the program is headed in the right direction with Shyatt? I still honestly don't know quite yet. At this point I think we have gotten better with each coming season. I confess at times I wish the improvement could be more rapid, but as long as we are getting better each year I can't be too disappointed. And I do think we improved this year. This is the most conference games we have won in some time, and strength of the conference aside, we won games this year that we usually would've lost in past years like the FSU, CSU, Nevada, and SJSU road games as well as the UNM game at home. There are many areas in which I disagree with Shyatt, but I feel like most of the frustration was that all of us, including players and coaches, had high expectations especially as the season went on and it has become clear that we were over-reaching, but that is not making me feel all doom and gloom about our future per se.

Whatever you think about Shyatt, I think we can all agree he gets a lot of effort out of his players and is able to take a thin team with mostly mediocre players and is able to beat more talented teams with them. To me the biggest questions as to whether or not the program is heading in the right direction are:
1.)Is he able to recruit more talented players and recruit a good combination of shooters, shot-creaters, and post players now that the reputation of Wyoming basketball isn't complete trash?
2.)Will he be able to get some depth on the team?
3.)Can he manage the minutes of his starters and appropriately trust his bench so we don't get gassed at the end of the season?

We should know the answer to numbers 1 and 2 in the next 2-3 seasons, and we've never really been deep enough to see if he can do 3.

With the MWC tournament around the corner, I started thinking about last years team. With Nance healthy, I thought last years team was better than this years team. Sobey and Granberry were damn good players and I don't think we've replaced them with equal talent.

However, our record is better this year. Is it because the conference is weaker? Or, is it because Nance only missed a few games this year?

Sobey was damn good. Very underrated. His two-handed dunks were some of best. Every time I watch 1:18 of this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlZUhq1nseE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I want to let out a primal scream. Can you imagine anyone but Adams or LArry doing that on this year's team? We might only have one or two losses if we had Sobey or a player that could do what Sobey could. Damn :(

weaker conference heck ya....weaker non conf schedule and yes Nance only missed 4 as opposed to 7 last year, that's my take, this team coulda been stellar but damn those injuries and gremlins that always seem to plague our Pokes, once the Ground Hog sees his shadow, it's like the Gremlins in the AA wait for that to come outta hibernation and run havoc on this team...lol

I will never understand why people liked him. To me, he was last years Hankerson. WAY TOO much talent for as streaky as he was. For every 1:18 he had 30 minutes of missed shots and lazy defense. I don't miss him for a minute.

8-5 with Nance last year, 8-4 this year. Pretty much sums it up.
