Did someone say Bowl Game?

Hey Doc, sounds like you need to find a new team to support. Wyoming is what it is, like it or not it is all we have. We will have good years and we will have bad years and yes we will even have mediocre years. It is the nature of the beast, try to recruit a "big time" player to come to Laramie, Wyoming and see how far you get. It doesn't happen that often. Lets support our kids. I am a Brown and Gold fan and have always been one. Growing up I would have done anything to wear that bucking horse on the side of my helmet....now my son does and I am damn proud of him for all of the hard work and sacrifices that he has made and is going to make. It is a little appalling to me to hear someone say that Wyoming doesn't prepare.........people have no idea how many hours of film and meetings and practice that goes into a week of practice at this level.

Now granted everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I will never judge anyone for the choices they make in life. So Doc, there are plenty of other teams in the MWC that could use your support, and if you look far enough you could even probably find one that is winning this year. If that doesn't work out you could always change to another team next year or in two years. ;-)

Indeed, your response is as predictable, as it is shortsighted, as it is non-objective, as it completely and totally misses the point.

Then again, I think we both know you already knew this.

Hey Doc there seems like there is a lot of some folks not getting the point. Just take the good and ignore the bad!

I'm just dismayed by such a pigheaded mentality that because a 'fan' of the team is critical (and justifiably so) it must mean that the fan needs to go root for another club.

Where does this come from?

So no matter the results on the field, no matter the backward direction of the program, the obvious negative trends...all of this one is supposed to simply ignore and be too kind to mention?

The response is to question one's loyalty to the franchise so to speak?

Hey, I stand corrected, the boys played their hearts out yesterday, you win some, you lose some, but at the end of the day it's all about that Steamboat logo making me proud.

Go Pokes!

Better?

I have an idea how many hours that go into a week of practice, twenty! Unless you're suggsting our coaches are breaking NCAA rules ; )

Seriously though, I think most of us really support the players as they are the ones that are going to battle. I totally don't understand why people get upset at a player when they leave the team, as we never know the real reason. When they go on, I still follow them a little and hope they do well, unless they would happen to play Wyoming. But the present players seem to get a load of support. We usually get pissy at the professionals, the guys that make 6 figures, or even 7 figures to do things that most of us do for free, albeit at a lower level. Well, when you're geting the cash you have to be held accountable. I think when Doc or others (me) get on and bitch about what's going on, that is supporting the players. As in these guys are working their asses off and they need better leadership, need better preparation. We're not saying they are not working to be prepared, only that the preparation isn't working. The plan is flawed.

To me, Doc seems pretty enthused about the Cowboys and I like having him as a fellow fan, just as I like having Kansas and Beav and all the other posters, that like to come on and air things out. That is the concept behind a forum.

On a related subject, I do see how hard these guys work and that's why I also support some sort of compensation for the money sports players.

I enjoy Doc's perspective on things and in a perverse way I enjoy the Beavers insane optimism which some days makes me want to projectile vomit on the walls. But my God what a boring world it would be without people like them.

I'm not saying they don't work hard, but other than a handful of players from both sides of the ball and the punter, no one really showed up for the team. First defensive series, the defense was still rubbing the sleep out of their eyes and the sheep scored in 4 plays. The first offensive series, the offense looked like they still had a hangover from the Texas State game.

I could see Smith getting frustrated throughout the game, Gentry and Rufran tried, but were blanketed, and Wick rarely had anything resembling a hole in which to run through. For defense, Mertens, Yarbrough, and Huff. I'm sure Wacha tried, and I heard his name at least once, but not much else. But having only 3-4 players our of 11 actually trying to play says quite the opposite of "playing hard". We played hard against Nebraska and Air Force. Took a while to get going against Idaho, and beat out UNC, but the coaches can only call the plays. If the players don't have their heads in the game, there's not much a coach can do.

Doc, Doc, Doc. Sometimes frustration leads to unclear logic. Trust me I feel your pain, difference is I realize that a coaching change now, or even an impending change will do this team no good. Make the most of this year and deal with the results come January. Difference between you and I is I am not ready to give up on the 2013 Cowboys. Perhaps because I have a vested interest in the outcome.

Funny though how a fan who isn't willing to throw in the towel on a team in the middle of a season is considered a sunshine pumper??????

formolwyoming......not suggesting that our coaches are doing anything illegal, however players spend their own time outside of practice and meetings watching film, lifting, and conditioning so that they can run an uptempo offense. Just saying people have no idea!

I wasn't saying that they don't study film and what not, but the last few games, a lot of players during game time, have their minds elsewhere. Is it all of them? No. Some do have their heads in the game come gameday, but no where near enough. Take Herron for example. Start of the season, he was doing pretty well, held on to the ball, caught it, beat people with his feet. Now, the last few games, he's been having trouble hanging onto the ball, yes sometimes its thrown behind, and thats more on Smith, but there have been times where its thrown where it needs to be, but Herron starts turning to run before he's caught the ball. Other guys have been wide open, got the ball where they need it, but still drop it.

Its like the team I watched play against Nebraska and Air Force took a vacation or something.

this lack of wrapping up on tackling is what has turned me off, it's been this way the past 5 maybe more years than I care to remember, I know they don't practice fundamentals etc anymore, but maybe it's time to start, nothing but tackling drills, many and hard. Also our receivers need to catch the ball during the big plays, especially Herron, or has he mailed it in already being a Senior????? frustration has run rampant

We talking bowl game here?

A loss like last Saturday (everything considered) kills off a portion of the fan base. If UW gets lucky enough to make it that far (bowl game) that loss just cost them somewhere around 2000 - 4000 tickets sold to said bowl game. Nobody on the fence wants to dump a grand plus, to maybe witness in a bowl game like what they just witnessed at home.

I agree they are not the same team and I think you hit it right on the head.....lack of focus. There are many reasons for it however......... Probably too many to go into........

bowl game, we truly need the cliche of one game at a time, then we'll see about the other scenario[/quot

I agree with the one game at a time deal.....however a team has to have goals and for a MWC team the culminating event is in fact a Bowl game. However this year there is also the added carrot of the MWC championship game. So the talk of a bowl game is akin to a high school team talking about a state championship. It is simply a culminating event to look forward to. (IMHO)

It appears Herron has been moved on the depth chart to a two. Jake Maulhardt is starting this week.

I've been impressed with Gentry. Not the speediest guy, but i havent seen him drop many passes. More of a reliable posession receiver.

Second or third fastest receiver on the team behind Rob.
