Depression

Guys, sorry to vent. I don't drink, personally, but I now see why many Wyoming fans do. It is the only way to cope at times.

I am sitting here excited as Richard Simmons at a hot dog stand thinking of Wyo football...and suddenly....depression.

I am tired of "starting over." I am tired of "rebuilding." I am tired of the whole "there is always next year..." BS. How many times can we hear this as Pokes fans and not go into a deep hibernated depression of some kind?

This is my therapy. To come share online. Otherwise, JD.

Sadly ever since the Vic Koenning era we have been trying to fight back up hill. We have had our moments, but we always seem to face plant yet again. I like the direction this program is going defensively, but we still have a ways to go offensively. Sadly that is DC's specialty. What I think the real problem was that he picked the wrong offensive coordinator in Arroyo to start with... we are definitely upgraded with Brandon now.

I'll say this, this time of year is quite depressing. I'm ready for Poke football to start back up and for the recruiting info to start turning up our way... sadly we have to wait our turn more times than not.

When I'm feeling blue, I listen to a little bit of this to help me feel better.

I agree that the hiring of Arroyo was bad, in fact he was a disaster. On the flip side it feels that maybe the hiring of Brandon will be the exact opposite. This year might be tough with a True Freshman QB and an OL that is still a work in progress. The schedule is lighter, so maybe we end up with a successful season and a returning QB with 3 years left.

What bums me out (depression is too severe a word for how I feel, plus I do drink!) is that there's so little info about the team. It's like some sort of secret society. I can put on the TV or get on-line and find out all kinds of things from other programs, but with Wyoming it's always "no further comment". Is DC so focused or does he fall into the category of "It is better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt"? Surely he has to be getting more comforatable around here. Other than an occassional Gags blog we mostly get heresay from forums. Come on, this isn't just sports, it's entertainment. Give us something. DC, how do you think we'll do? Don't keep sticking with the "we're pleased with our speed or recruiting class" stuff. If DC has nothing to say why not let the assistants do interviews. Or the players.

I wasn't happy with ACS leaving, but I loved that Smith got right on Twitter stating "that's why I'm here". I love that, a confident enthusiastic player. Then the coach shuts him down with no more tweeting about the team. Welcome to Laramie Brett! Let's have some fun. There have been negative posts about Glenn and the piano playing and whatnot, but it was entertaining. Serious is only fun when you're winning and it appears we're a long way from there. I'm not talking about 7-6, but challenging for the conference at least. Here's a link for what looks like a USC team meeting when Carroll was coach.

As the eternal optimist I have to cling to the notion that Wyo football will improve this year, and show signs of actually dominating on defense, and showing at least marginal improvement on offense.

When I graduated from UW in the late eighties I convinced my wife to stay in Laramie since UW was dominating in both major sports and we could never find a better entertainment venue in the country. We'll since then the 90's have been up and down and the 2000's have generally sucked.

So it's time for a new era, the 2010's. And we are back! In both sports. Not yet championship material in either, but far more competitive in both. I too am a beer connoisseur but I'm told a 12-step program takes a while and were barely past 4 or 5.

The road to recovery is long, maybe too long. But we're going in the right direction. Have faith and stay thirsty my friends.

Remember Missourri? It took them about 5 years to get back to back 10 win seasons.

Exccept they're a BCS school, we're not. It's a whole lot easier getting good players if you're in the BCS.

But as a whole you play who your scheduled to play. Outside of the likes of Nebraska, we will be playing weaker OOC opponents and the MWC albeit with talent is something we are use to facing. All we can do is beat those in front of us. You look over the conference and there is no reason we shouldn't be in the upper half every season... we use to do that fairly regularly against much of the same programs.

Actually thinking back through things, we started going back down hill during the Dimel days but only truly saw the fall once Koenning took over. Both were here together and did a poor job of recruiting overall. Dimel was living fat off of Tiller's recruits.

I graduated in '91 and boy did we have it good. I got my 2nd degree in '96, another great year for Wyoming football. We need to get back to that level and also think we are heading in the right directions in both sports.

It's time for Wyonation to pound our chests again.

I agree with you about DC being a bit closed up. It would be great to get more updates regarding players and events within the inner circle. I have a link to a link and most of what I hear is credible but it would be nice to have greater access to information from the coaching staff.

Makes you feel like we are Kansas State under Bill Snyder or something with how info is so tight and hard to scrum up.

I watch something like this and I am ready to drop 500 bones on Nebraska tickets.

Then I read the depth chart and become very pessimistic about the REALITY of where we are as a team currently...

I’m cautiously optimistic. This year should be entertaining to say the least (with the Competition between Smith and Pittser). I also like the depth at WR, DL, and LB. I think TJ Smith will be a good WR/TE and it will be exciting to see what he does with a full year as a starter (he had 8 rec. and a TD in 3 games he saw significant playing time last year). I am also looking forward to the new WRs from Texas coming in, and the competition in the secondary.

I also like that fact that we have a proven OC in Coach Brandon (huge upgrade). I can’t say that I am not worried about the o-line, but I really think we will win 6 to 7 games this year.

I hope I end up eating the biggest piece of Crow this year because I'm not expecting much. That being said, I'm still pumped for Wyo football and it can't some soon enough.

I'm with you, cornpoke. I don't expect much either. Like 4-8 or worse. The OL and lack of QB experience scares the shit outta me.

As many of you know, I have been one of the more negative posters on this board. But I'm actually optimistic this season. 3-9 last year but, we had chances to win in the 4th qtr against Air force, byu, new mexico, and SDS. Turnovers hurt us but I thought the offense was much better last year. ACS was more error prone than the year before. Maybe a qb change will end up being a good thing. The running game was a lot better last year. I think we have more speed at running back than I can ever remember.

If the defense can stop the run, I see us in a bowl game!!
