A couple of articles about ESPNs fascination with Dax Crum. What do you think.. good or bad press?

LARAMIE -- Dax Crum simply shrugged off the notion that he's the most famous Wyoming Cowboys player in the country.

But there's no doubt his name is mentioned more frequently than any other.

Crum, UW's former starting quarterback, has become a somewhat odd favorite of ESPN Radio personalities Scott Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo over the past year, but the senior shrugged the publicity off when asked about it after Thursday's practice.

Any national attention is good for Wyoming football, right?

For a program that is trying to step up to notoriety (see: Quick 7-6 season, bowl victory in Dave Christensen's first year and big changes to War Memorial Stadium) seeing their helmet on ESPN almost daily seems like a pretty good deal.

The way he played today...I say good. Even though the D did dominate...the 2's with Dax had some success. Sounds like our kicking game still sucks ass...blocks, misses, penalties...not good.

I believe all of the blocks came with McCoy kicking. I suspect that is because he isn't getting very good initial lift on his FG attempts. Lets just hope that a kick isn't what decides the Southern Utah game. Watts sounded pretty solid to me and seems to have improved his leg strength.

Schober's consistency when kicking off did concern me a little bit. He kicked three...two of them were boomed deep into the endzone, but one was a linedrive that landed at the 20 yard line. We can't afford to have 1 out of every 3 kickoffs be a dud. Hopefully that was just an anomaly and he can be more consistent for us once the season begins.

Are you kidding me? WTF did we have last year? Pouch kickoffs to the 30 everytime, I will take 2 out of 3 personnally. The one that landed at the 20 did bounce into the endzone as well. IMO

The D dominated, but ACS strength is scrambling/running. If a defender came near him it was called a sack. In the real season he'll finish the play. Dax did well in the spring and today, so that's good.

"kicking game still sucks"...when did it suck? Watts led the MWC in the regular season with 91% FG % and was the only kicker in the country with 3 GW FGs. McCoy was in the top 20 in the country for punting. And now we have Schober for KOs and if he doesn't work out we're still okay. One of the only things I think CFN got right was rating our STs high.

Hey I'm finally back in time for football season!

I think any pub for Wyoming football is great! Like I have said many times before, Dax is one of the best QB's i have ever seen in practice. It just doesn't translate to game situations.

Kick offs. Still, suck, ass. Maybe Oliver can pull it off and get consistant, but we'll see. There are more aggravating things than watching us give up good (to great) field position on every kick off...but not many.

You're right last season our KOs were bad. With our opponents average starting point on the 32 yard line we may as well have kicked the ball out of bounds to prevent run backs. I always thought these short high kicks were on purpose to try for turn overs, that we did get twice. Once against FAU and again at San Diego. Both turn overs on KOs allowed us to win the game. But I recently saw Coach Cs press conference where he mentions last seasons bad kicks. So I guess they weren't on purpose. So far this fall both Watts and Schober are kicking over half their KOs into the endzone. Schober's been banging his, but has had a bunch of short ones. Watts has been more consistent with none being shorter than the 5 yard line. I think we're fine this year with these guys. Plus we still have Bell who is showing up when school starts.
