Damn

So bored with no Football it can't come soon enough, Only saving grace is Dexter starting in June instead of September.

Summer suuuuuucks for sports. However, in the land of college football no news in the summer is usually good news. We could be the NFL right now..

For me, summer's been crazy busy so far. I think I've been home maybe 2-3 nights in the last two weeks. Applied for a new job. Got a new steamboat tattoo. Managed to hurt everything playing softball this summer (partial tear to my rotator cuff, high ankle sprain, severe case of road rash diving for a ball, and a softball imprint bruise on my forearm when someone sent a screamer back at me on the mound). Now's it's 5pm and 100 degrees in fricking Montana. F this, I moved here to get away from the heat. I guess Anchorage is next. Also trying to plan a vacation.. so far that's been a total waste of time, as I have no idea what I want to do. Suggestions? I have a couple of weekend trips to Glacier Park planned for some hiking and getting away from cell service and civilization. Maybe a trip to Billings to see The Offspring. What have you all been doing, or going to do, this summer?

The highlight of your summer - where did you get it (I'm not talking about the artist)? I hope it is not on that shoulder you tore the rotator cuff. Damn we need rain. Good luck on the new job.

Nebraska. 3 hour drive from Laramie. Home of Cabela's.
Is the Cabela's there unique, or similar to others?
Well, the original Cabela's was there, than they moved it to a place a little ways outside of town by Walmart. But it is where the store started.

Dude, it's a heat wave up here in AK, too! In Fairbanks we hit 91 a couple days ago. Horrible for a place where there is no AC, homes are insulated to keep you warm at -55F, is light out all the damn time, and forest fires around the state are smoking you out. At night the inside of the house is at least 90, and the only thing you can do to try to cool down is open a window and hope for a warm breeze. But you do that, it's light out all night...so it's brighter than shit or hotter than shit, but more than likely both.

That's pretty cool. It wouldn't work for me though because I don't wear shorts - it would gross everyone out with all the surgeries due to football injuries to my leg. Are you going to have to have surgery on your shoulder?

I am debating what magnum to buy for bear protection. I have narrowed it down to 4:

.44 mag, cheaper, reliable, ammo plentiful
.454 casul, cheapest, more power, ammo supply good
.460 S&W, expensivest, devastating power fastest pistol round on the market, ammo scarce
.500 S&W, expensive, a hair more devastating power, ammo available but pricey

Yeah decisions decisions. CFB needs to start...

No, going to tough it out and let nature take its course. Isn't hurting me enough to affect me much.

Bear protection is dicey. You can shoot the damn things in the face and they keep coming (trust me). The loadout I've found that works best is a .45 long colt with a hollow point bullet (the higher the grain the better, you need some serious lead to drop a bear) then put a 12 gauge primer in the hollow point and a little wax to hold it in. It does some serious damage, and .45 long colt is a pretty easy round to find.

Friend of mine just bought a .41 as his bear gun. Flat shooting bullet with a lot of thump, but not the bulk and punishment of a .44 mag. If I'm out I usually carry a 7.62x25 Tokarev. Not a huge grain bullet (85gr) but it moves at 1700 ft/sec. I've got my pistol loaded up with hallow points so it does some damage in a hurry. But check out the .41, it might fit your needs.

Too bad there is no practical gun size for bear protection while hiking or mountain biking. I carry bear spray, but my luck the wind would pick up and blow it right back in my face in the case I ever had to use it.
