Why? I'm glad it is a Wednesday night. The littler the crowd the better. It's before CSU students get back and in the middle of the week. We need their arena as quiet as possible. The last 2 times we have been there have been blowouts, why ask for the same?
So what? We can't ask for a sellout of 9,000 and a one point OT win, like we did with Bailey and Davis? The Rocky Mountain region has the best records in the conference, and we're hoping for a small crowd? Really?
Yet I'm sure you'll be the first to bitch if we only get 5,000 for UNLV...

I can see it now:
CSU living on a prayer, but undefeated going into the night against their rival WYO.
WYO will barely eke out a win against UNLV and the. Go on the road and struggle to get a win against the worst team in the conf. SJSU. Then we hit Ft. col at 12-2, and CSU at 15-0, after barely getting by an injured BSU and UNM. WYO comes in tied for first in the conf only to beat the Sheep on their home court, behind a capacity crowd to get us win 13 and a top 25 ranking plus a top 20 win on our resume.
I'm fucking hilarious!

I can see all of that besides the CSU sell out. What makes you think this team is ready to perform at that type of level?

Because just like when we had Bailey and Davis, when we're good, WYO fans hit the Ft in droves. The game we won down there in 02-03, we were good. CSU was considered middle of the pack. CSU fans showed up and so did WYO fans. I would say 60/40 CSU to WYO that game. If we go to the Ft, the top two teams in conf. They will be sold out.
And I think WYO has a good chance against those guys. Even at the Ft.
LawPoke said:Until someone beats CSU, they deserve what they are getting. I won't take anything away from them at this point. If we had played NMSU on the road, we would have lost. CSU beat them at their place and did so with a lot of grit, grinding the Aggies down over the course of the game.
Not to be overly negative, but I am much more concerned about Wyoming at this juncture. We have not played well on the road, losing to two teams that played with depleted rosters and otherwise winning in a blah fashion. Outlasting Montana State in the last 2 minutes on the road is not the hallmark of anything more than a CBI team. Even then, outside of CU and some cupcakes, we haven't been consistent overall, including at home. Adams can dunk pretty - but has lost his swagger. Grabau is hurt, but even before his injury was starting to backslide, just like last year. Other than Nance, I can't say I am particularly elated with anyone's game right now, understanding that some of the guys are hurt. Our bench production is crap, we have had way too many turnovers of late and lack intensity nearly across the board.
My concern has slipped from any thoughts of snagging road victories and other teams' weaknesses and is focused solely on holding serve at home and hoping that the Pokes pull out of their pre-Holiday funk. I have faith that Shy will coach 'em up and get them going, but there just doesn't seem to be any fire in their guts right now.
NMSU are without four key players, including their two best players (Nephawe and Mullings). I distinctly remember Mullings putting up 21 against the Pokes in Laramie to keep the Aggies close. Mullings didn't play against the sheep. CSU will get poked in the nose several times during MWC play.JimmyDimes said:LawPoke said:Until someone beats CSU, they deserve what they are getting. What if we played them without their best player and Preseason WAC Player of Year? He was New Mexico State highest scorer and best player when they played us. He didn't play against CSU. And, their big guy didn't hit two or three treys to keep them close toward the end of the game.
The rest is your opinion......I think the Pokes take care of business.
Go Pokes!!

I thought it was two starters, but you are probably correct. Ultimately, I don't much care about CSU (in fact, I hate them and actually think that they will likely end up about where Wyoming did the year Martinez kicked the guy in the head...but for now, they are ranked and haven't been beaten), but I remain concerned about the Pokes. The UNLV game will be a good indicator of whether that concern is warranted or not.
calpoke25 said:I share LawPokes concern right now. Regardless of whether CSU is as good as their record is, their record is still unblemished and until they lose, they deserve to be where they are. If Wyoming was undefeated with our much worse SOS we'd feel equally as entitled. Wyoming to me right now is starting to Feel like a ship taking on water faster than it can be pumped out. The UNLV game is giving me a bad feeling. I think it has the potential to rip open all the holes in the ship, but Wyoming also has a great opportunity to start MW play with a quality win. We'll see what happens.
NowherePoke said:I don't really see it in those terms. UNLV is very talented and a loss wouldn't surprise me. However, I don't really see this Wyoming team as being on the verge of any kind of breakdown. Now, we don't have any depth (as usual), so any significant injury/suspension will screw us just like the last two years, but if they stay intact they will hang around in most games and be a top half team I believe. Unfortunately, the OOC wasn't good enough to really entertain NCAA hopes. Very disappointing, particularly the Cal game, but I am hoping that Nance is rounding into form and that the Pokes will be a tougher out later on.
