CSU future games

Not sure how to feel about Burman signing an agreement to schedule games with CSU beginning in 2028. My initial reaction is Burman is an idiot to reward then for backstabbing UW by leaving the MWC

He is a shitbag of an AD. But the fanbase, largely, wanted the game to continue - even though it was CSewe's decision to move to another G5 conference, and leave AFA, Wyoming, NM, etc., in their dust.

I would also venture to guess, that by 2028, this whole thing will break, and the have-nots will all be playing together again.

I have the same feeling. ALL the schools currently in the MW plus newcomers along with Oregon State, Wazzu, AND Gonzaga will be in one conference together eventually.

He is wrong many things, but playing CSU still is not one of them. SImilar to the Civil War, Holy War and Apple Cup continuing when those schools left their rival behind.

On a related note I have been reading that UTEP has only given a verbal commitment to the MWC and is still under consideration for PAC membership. I love how UTEP and Texas State are suddenly these new highly coveted programs.

I'm leaning towards the whole PAC debacle imploding before it ever gets off the ground. Who are they going to get to join for football? There's no one left that does anything but make the conference worse overall.

I feel the same. I dislike them almost as much as BYU and wouldn’t care if we ever play them again. I want nothing more now than to see The Pokes with the Boot again this year. That’s what I want for Christmas.

Wishful thinking. The PAC will have its options of Texas State and Sacramento State once Memphis inevitably turns it down. It’s not about those teams making the conference worse, it’s about the ridiculousness of the teams leaving that set this in motion with no turning back for the time being.

Oregon st and Texas St, the rivalry the west coast has waited for!

I do agree that pride will keep whatever bullshit this is in motion. I just don’t see how this PAC with Utah at, Sac St and Tx St is better than a combined MW/PAC other than the number of mouthes to feed. If the courts rule in MW favor, I think it could change the direction of this alignment. That’s a lot of money owed for little gain.

How does it change the direction of the alignment for the 5 years starting in 2026? The MWC has agreed to pay UNLV and Air Force a bunch of additional money, has agreed to make UTEP an equal partner and has brought in a joke of a school in Olympic sports. It’s no longer a pride thing. From a legal standpoint- there appears to be no ability to unwind the clock.

you don't know what kind of clauses are in the contracts etc. If the MW and PAC end up combining into the PAC, wouldn't the MW contract with UNLV and AF be no longer valid?

The MWC MOU contract was released publicly. Anyone can read the clauses. The contract makes distribution obligations to all members subject to and contingent upon collection of exit fees but obligates the conference to use ‘commercially reasonable efforts’ to actually pursue collection of the exit fees (and provides no PAC/MWC merger provisions).

The conference bylaws would suggest that merger requires unanimous consent of conference members. Dissolution of the conference require votes of 3/4 members.

But all of this is moot - even if UNLV and Air Force would agree to forego distributions in exchange for a revisited merger agreement, the MWC additions pretty much preclude such a result.
