CSU - A Three Point Favorite on Friday

So the spread is out. Vegas has CSU as the early 3 point favorite. Since the home team generally gets a three point advantage, this means Vegas thinks our teams are evenly matched.

If this isn't motivation for Pokes, I don't know what is. I'm kind of glad we're not a 20 point favorite. It's true anything can happen in a rivalry game - Florida State could upset Florida, for example, although I don't expect it to happen.

I want Cowboys scoring over 40 just to show that they can, with less than 10 points allowed. It's time for revenge!

Betting lines are set to get people to wager on the game, they don't necessarily reflect the true favorites. I doubt many CSU fans would agree with being 3 point favorites. However from the casino's point of view...

There is a good chance CSU will win. If they make CSU 3 point favorites, they know that will rile up the entire state of Wyoming and anyone who follows MWC football will say, "huh, CSU favorites?? I will put money down on Wyoming in an instant." So there trying to generate a lot of action, no easier way to do it than by making CSU favored.

If CSU wins, the bookies will be celebrating.

Regretfully I watched UNM vs. CSEwe and my Football IQ went down with every minute of play. Quite possibly the worst display of football I've seen. I'd take Wyoming by 10 if I was to bet. Personally, I can see a 21+ point victory for the Pokes and unless something weird happens, I'll be seeing you all in Albequerque (please got don't make me go to Boise).

When is the last time we won a game on the road by double digits? Anyone know? We have the potential to do that to CSU, especially if we score early and completely demoralize them. But I still think its going to be a close, bitter fought game. Just hope we can pull out a couple more plays than they do.

Has there been any word on the severity of Stucker's chest injury? If they're missing their starting QB, it COULD be another advantage for Wyoming.

Then again, Stucker's tendency to throw second half interceptions would definitely be a nice thing to have too.

As long as they don't throw Bradlee Van Pelt in, I'm not worried.

On that note, Austin Carta Samuels is about to become synomimous with BVP.....meaning it will seem to the sheep that he QB's the Pokes for 8 straight seasons and will seem to single handedly beat them every time!

Go Pokes!

The Poke offense is going to have to be more imaginative than it has been in the last couple of games.

Reason Pokes win: ACS
Reason Pokes lose: Arroyo

The CSU athletes are as good as the Pokes. Coaching - the strategic plan and game tactics will be the difference.

How about we give the coaching staff a little time to get their team on the field. Arroyo is not the problem. The coaches call the game as they see fit, and I for one say let them. Remember the last time the offensive coordinator was the supposed problem? The new guy was worse. Leave it alone.

The only way we could end up in Boise is if TCU somehow loses (humanitarian has last pick). Not going to happen. The only bowl possibilities are the Armed Forces and New Mexico Bowl. I say the Armed Forces as a small possibility as they might want a new team this year after having Air Force the last couple.

Arroyo has nothing to do with it. DC is the one in charge . DC ran a conservative game plan last week against TCU on purpose and tried to run the ball to shorten the game up and keep the clock moving as that was our best chance to win , keep the clock moving and keep it a low scoring game. It didn't work out but that is because we were playing one of the top 4 teams in the country.

You will see the most wide open playbook you have seen all year this Friday against CSU . Not sure if we will win or not but I think we will put some points on the board as long as the players execute.

Yup, calling Arroyo the O.C. is misleading. He's just a guy who sits in the booth with a headset on.

Actually, the bookies don't want to try and trick anyone, and do not want to set people up in one direction or another, but you are right that lines don't necessarily reflect which team they think is better.

Casinos make their money from sports betting off of commissions paid on every bet. For example, if you bet on Wyoming, you might see something that says, bet 20 to win 37. This means that there is a 3 dollar commission taken by the casino for every 20 wagered. If you win, you are essentially taking the 20 from someone who bet on CSU, and the casino just set it up for you , legally, for 3 dollars. For this reason, the casino's motivation is to split the line as perfectly as possible. They want to set a line which will divide the mass' thinking right in half, therefore coming out even in paid bets, and collecting pure profit in terms of commissions. This is why the lines tend to move as the day of the event approaches. In many cases, the bookies are so good that they hit it dead on from the start, but in some cases people flock to one side more than the other, and the casinos are forced to move the line in the other direction in order to attract to people to the opposing side.
