Last summer Vorel was unconscious in the way he regularly wrote about UW Football...when there was nothing going on but to check this board to see what it was that we were all talking about. Vorel had a new angle almost every other day last summer. It was silly.

Was Vorel on the job only a couple months when he was producing this content? That's the standard people here are expecting Holmgren to live up to.

Don't you honestly remember everything Vorel covered in the off season (April - August as you put it)? Just because the stands are not full, doesn't mean it is just time to say fuck it and report absolutely nothing. Damn.

He hasn't "reported absolutely nothing." If that's what you think, you have blinders on and aren't paying attention.

He got to town at the beginning of offseason. No hoops to report. No spring football. No contacts built up. What did you expect him to write other than the news that was reported about recruiting and Nance at the NBA Draft?

Also, in journalism, there's something called timeliness. It's better to publish a story about football leading up to football season, not three months earlier. That's why summer months are usually quieter. That's why this series is coming out now and not in May.

Ok. You are right, he hasn't reported absolutely nothing. Pretty close to it though, ya.

And don't give me that journalism timeliness bullshit...that is ridiculous. He could have pumped out player stories, Wyoming walk on player stories, off season workout stories, facility stories, athletic department staff change stories, athletes in the community stories, human interest stories (Haiti), etc., etc., etc., etc.

For basketball, there's an easy solution to the scheduling issue. Win the MWC tourney. If CSEwe had shown up and won it, they probably wouldn't have been a 12-seed, giving them a better chance at making a run. Win the tourney, and the questions about schedule, RPI, Sagarin, Ken-Pom, etc all become a lot less important.

The only way to really fix this is to put some sort of requirement on programs. Something like, "you have to play at least two non-conference FBS road games each year." I have no idea if that's feasible, but something like that would prevent the power schools from scheduling all non-conference home games, requiring programs like UW to have to go there to play them.

I don't know the answer, but I really hate this "why would we go there if we might lose" attitude from the power schools.

That was a great article from yesterday about attendance and costs.

It is easy to say, "Just get out to the games everyone..." But that just isn't reality. Many of us don't live close to Laramie, and as a result, have to be prudent which games to attend. It costs me approximately $250 to attend ONE football game. I have been stranded in Rock Springs going to games. Just not worth it to me now that the games are on TV.

That said, I am calling out the students. Get your butts in the seats. The attendance issue for basketball games is pathetic. There is NOTHING going on in Laramie in December-March. NOTHING. I don't even care if you aren't "fans" per se, but go with your friends and enjoy the atmosphere.

Although there is constant fighting between guys on here (won't mention names...just scroll above ), I have grown quite fond of you buttheads on here because you are passionate about the Pokes as anyone I know. I can count on J-Rod teasing Norm Chow. I can count on Wyokie tying every single thread back to "The team that shall not be named from Provo" ...point is, many of us on here know for certain we would attend every game we could. Due to families, locations, etc, we can't go. So............every student--. Do us a favor and get your butts in the seats. Put away your Tinder app for 120 mins and support UW.

For just about any UW fans not living in Laramie or Cheyenne, a home game can also be referred to as a road game due to the travel. I am one of those not living in Laramie or Cheyenne with season tickets for both football & basketball, and I'm going to start doing what WYO1016 has been doing - taking an RV to the games (especially night games, bad weather games, and probably just about all basketball games). This is not a huge RV, but it is 4WD, fully self contained, built for cold weather, and will fit in a regular parking spot (no, it is not brown and gold).

For just about any UW fans not living in Laramie or Cheyenne, a home game can also be referred to as a road game due to the travel. My wife has warned me about adding any brown & gold paint as well. We are old and retired, so don't have the kids to worry about. These late night trips back & forth are getting more difficult.

you get what you pay for most of the time. high standards usually require higher pay or you get a revolving door and mixed results.

These have been a pretty good series of articles. Honestly, there just isn't much we can complain about from a revenue standpoint. That is on us and our lack of attendance. Personally, I think the AD can do more things for attendance, but winning is the main thing. I think the bball attendance will be back. A good year this coming year will go a long ways. For football, our attendance crashes in November; I'm not sure if there is an answer for that.

Still, those are our "in-house" problems, but we also need solutions to our out-of-house problems. The main one brought up here is scheduling. I've been banging this drum for awhile now. There needs to be some oversight and mandated scheduling in the NCAA. This is something that puts us at a competitive disadvantage.

Secondly, every conference champ should have an avenue to access the final playoff.

Finally, smaller revenue schools should have some autonomy and flexibility on NCAA rules that put those schools at a disadvantage (private planes for recruits as an example).

The MWC commish and our AD need to be more vocal about these inherent problems of the NCAA that limit our success. The rest is on us.
