That is true but DC could be gone without a bowl win or possibly without playing for a MWC title anyways. Which if we're being objective, bowling MIGHT happen, Championship game is very unlikelyBeaverPoke said:wyokoke said:How would that be any different?
I doubt he would fire Shyatt but he might fire DC after this season regardless of outcome. Firing DC might lead to Brett leaving, and Thompson leaving.
Three scenarios save both Burman and Christensen's jobs: 1- Christensen gets to the title game; 2- Christensen gets to a bowl game and plays a competitive game (a 7-10 point loss) or wins; 3- Christensen wins only one more game, but vastly improves defensive production (reduces points allowed by at least 10 and yards allowed next four games drop below 400).wyokoke said:That is true but DC could be gone without a bowl win or possibly without playing for a MWC title anyways. I gotta agree with you on pretty much all of thisWyovanian said:Three scenarios save both Burman and Christensen's jobs: 1- Christensen gets to the title game; 2- Christensen gets to a bowl game and plays a competitive game (a 7-10 point loss) or wins; 3- Christensen wins only one more game, but vastly improves defensive production (reduces points allowed by at least 10 and yards allowed next four games drop below 400).wyokoke said:That is true but DC could be gone without a bowl win or possibly without playing for a MWC title anyways. The first two are no-brainers for Burman's job security. The last one's a bit trickier. If Burman fires Christensen in that third scenario, Sternberg likely launches Burman. If Burman hesitates to fire Christensen outside of all three scenarios, Sternberg launches Burman.
Burman and Christensen's fates are pretty much linked- if Burman goes, Christensen's likely already gone. If Sternberg fires Burman for not firing Christensen, Christensen will be next on the carpet in Old Main and it's about 50-50 he leaves it running through job possibilities in his mind. There's about an even chance Sternberg would leave Christensen's fate up to Burman's replacement.
Want to double down?YankPoke said:I agree partially Wyovanian, but I think that they both will not be fired until after next year unless we are not competitive at all. I think as long as DC shows some improvement and beat Hawaii then DC will keep his job. I think that Burman is much more likely to be fired after this season. If they do not make a bowl game I would suspect that Burman be fired at the end of the year, but not DC and that DC receives one extra year while the new AD decides what to do.
There's a pretty solid axiom in most organizations- "Shit rolls downhill."BeaverPoke said:Any chance that DC pulls some shit out of his ass and wins some games, and Burman still gets fired?
Maybe our defense gets absolutely torn up, but DC out-coaches the other teams pulling trick plays, onside kicks, amazing offense, etc. and wins some games?
Then Burman doesn't want to give the football team more money for a good D-Coordinator? Or we only average 20K for the final 2 games?
I guess what I am getting at is that DC proves in these final 4 games that he CAN coach and get the team ready to play, but was being held back in some way from Burman?

Fact is, Christensen's downhill from Burman. Unless he can produce some sort of smoking gun that he made a good case to Burman and that Burman screwed the pooch on it, it's highly unlikely Burman gets the boot while Christensen is still welcome. Any case Christensen might make is further complicated by his own compensation package and I guarantee Sternberg's seen the AFA meltdown and has a pretty dim view of Christensen's executive ability.

From people who care?
Like the fans, and donors, and state governments?

Agreed, if TB gets the can, I'm afraid DC does. Both BBall coaches, Branch and Johnson (I think is his name...swimming coach) would stick around but it could be housecleaning the way Sternberg seems to take his athletics seriously

That could be true about the soccer, volleyball and track coaches, I don't know much about them. But I agree with DC probably being gone in a year no matter what happens if shit doesn't pick upNowherePoke said:wyokoke said:Wyovanian said:There's a pretty solid axiom in most organizations- "Shit rolls downhill."BeaverPoke said:Any chance that DC pulls some shit out of his ass and wins some games, and Burman still gets fired?

Soccer and Volleyball coaches are pretty new. No reason to make rash decisions there. Also, Berryhill is just in his 2nd season for Track and XC and I have heard positive reviews from him.
Really, I think the only fallout from a Burman departure would be to hasten the departure of DC, but I think that happens anyway (I just think it happens next year, not this year).
